Daniel's Pov:
Beep!Beep!Beep!
After I turned my alarm off I sat up in my bed and looked around my room. It was painted black and there wasn't a speck of colour. The walls were bare and there's always a cold draft coming from the window. It looked so depressing. A few more minutes passed until I finally decided to get out of my bed and get ready for school.
Once I was ready I put my shoes on and headed to school. Compared to yesterday, the sky was clear and there wasn't a single cloud in sight. The sun was shining bright and there was a cool refreshing breeze. Before I knew it I was standing in front of the school gates. I took one last breath of the wonderful fresh air and walked into school to meet my friends.
At school (last lesson of the day)
Iris's Pov:
I sighed for probably the 100th time. Today was not going well for me. My alarm went off late for some stupid reason and I was almost late for school. It also meant I literally had to run into school up the stairs and into my classroom. Thankfully, I wasn't late so I didn't get detention but since I ran my legs have been killing me. I wish I never had arthritis. If I didn't I wouldn't be in so much pain after running for just five minutes. On top of that, I had a maths test that I forgot to revise for and I'm very sure I failed it. I was currently sitting in Geography when my teacher announced that my class was going on a reward trip for doing well on our first mock exam for GCSEs. I read the letter and it said it was a camping trip. I heaved another sigh, there's no way my parents will let me go to it.
After class
"So, are you going on the trip?" Mark asked as we were walking out the gates.
"Most likely not. If my parents let me then of course I'll come but I'm quite sure they won't let me."
"Why not?"
"It's a camping trip so your obviously gonna have to walk to the campsite and if it's far your going to be walking a lot. It also mentions hiking and other activities that I can't do because of my arthritis. I'm still going to ask If I can go and If my parents say yes then I'll bring medicine to help the pain, but I don't think they'll let me. Especially my dad."
"What are you going to do while we're gone?"
I shrugged my shoulders,"Probably stay home since there's no point coming to school to learn if the whole class is nearly empty. Is Violet going as well?"
"She said she is but I didn't get to ask her because she quickly ran out the class saying she's in a hurry to get home."
"Well the trip isn't until next Friday so we'll have time to talk about it. I'll see you on Monday Mark," I waved goodbye as I walked to my mum's car.
At home
After getting changed I was about to ask my mum about the trip but I realised my dad wasn't home yet so I decided to wait until we had our dinner so we could discuss it together. By the time my mum finished making dinner my dad came home from work and when I was halfway through eating I finally gathered the courage to ask. Here goes nothing I thought.
I cleared my throat,"So my class is allowed to go on a reward trip for doing well on our exam and I was wondering, can I go on the trip too?" I asked sounding unsure.
"Can I see the letter for it?" my dad asked.
"Um,sure. I'll go get it from my bag," I said getting up from the table. I got the letter and gave it to my dad for him to read.
He sighed and I instantly knew he wouldn't let me go,"You know you can't go on this trip because of your arthritis. It involves a lot of walking activities and you can't walk long distances. So no, you can't go on this trip." he stated.
"But if I take medication with me can't I still go? Please. I really want to go," I pleaded.
"And what are you going to do when your legs hurt too much and you can't walk? The tablets only reduce the pain. Even if you do take them you'll still feel pain and the more you walk it will only make it worse. Regardless of whether you've had the tablets or not."
"I know it will get worse but if I know I can't handle the activities that include walking I'll just stay at the campsite."
"Iris," my dad started getting fed up,"You are not going on this trip and that's final. It's for your own health and to make sure you stay safe."
"Okay," I mumbled upset that I couldn't go on the trip. While we were talking I finished my dinner and I didn't want to stay downstairs any longer so I said goodnight to my family and went up to my room. Once I closed the door to my room I collapsed onto my bed. Why am I the one with arthritis? I asked myself. I opened my window and breathed in the fresh air. The night air was perfect and relaxing. Not too cold and not too warm. Just the right temperature. I laid down on my bed, put my earphones in and decided to watch some videos.
After a while there was a knock on my door.
"You can come in" I said. Surprisingly, it was my dad. I thought it would be my mum or brother since they're the only ones that ever step foot in my room. My dad hardly comes to my room.
"Hi Iris," he said,"I just wanted to say sorry if I made you upset because you're not allowed to go on the trip. It's just to prevent of any chance of you getting hurt and your arthritis getting worse. And I know you hate having arthritis because you can't walk as much as you could before and it stops you from doing a lot of things you used to love but that's why we have to make sure it doesn't get more worse than it already is." My dad explained in a soft voice.
"I know I understand I'm not upset about that I knew there was a small chance of me being able to go but I thought I'd ask just in case. You know how you said my arthritis will get worse the more I walk on it it will get worse, won't it get worse as I get older anyway?" I asked.
"Yes," he nodded,"But you've seen how the longer you stay on your feet it hurts more and that is what will happen if you go on that trip. That's why you can't go because when you come back you'll be in more pain after all the walking." My dad repeated.
"Okay I understand." I told him.
"Okay. Well I'm going to head to bed because I start work early tomorrow." He said goodnight and left. I also decided to get ready for bed as it was quite late and I needed to get up early tomorrow so I can go to my X-ray. I set my alarm for 9 o'clock and went to sleep.
