I wake up and look at the ceiling, my alarm blaring in my ear. Today's the big day. The first day of high school. I slam the top of my alarm clock with my hand and it shuts off. I look at myself in my mirror and say "Hey, handsome," to myself. My hair is completely flattened on one side, but I can fix that before I get to school.

I trudge downstairs and into the kitchen and grab a glazed doughnut. I eat it slowly, thinking that maybe if I eat slowly, then time will go slowly. But I was wrong. My sister comes bounding down the stairs and into the seat next to me.

"Hey!!!!!!!" she practically screams in my ear. She grabs a glazed chocolate doughnut from the box and sits down next to me.

"I wouldn't take that doughnut. You'll get to much energy. You'll look to perky for your first day of 7th grade." She stares at me, then slowly takes a bite from her doughnut. "Remember to jog to Florida after you finish eating that."

My mom comes down stairs in her robe, her hair wet. "Hello, my beautiful children. You guys ready for school yet?"

"Ugh, don't remind me," my sister says before me, even though I know that she can't wait.

"Well, it's time for me to leave," I say as I get up and grab my backpack. I walk out the front door and a nice breeze hits me. I start walking towards my bus stop, which is two blocks down. I spend the entire time looking at the scenery.

I live in Edwards, Colorado, which is about an hour west of Denver. It's a ski village, but in the summer, the city turns into a great hiking destination. Not many people live here, since every time you go to a place in lower elevation, you have to chug water so that you don't get altitude sickness.

The usual size of a class is between 20 to 25. They come from several different areas, since not many people live here. I get on the bus and get to school. When I get there, I see a bunch of kids I don't know. But that is the thing about high school. It's a completely new life.
