Everyone knew Pidge wasn't very romantic. She never was in a serious relationship, she was never in a relationship at all and she wasn't planning to be in one ever.

Lance on the other hand, was constantly jumping from one relationship to another, some may call him a player, others call him a man whore.

They where in the same class, but had never talked. Of course they knew each other, Pidge was the smartest person in class and you'd hear her voice every time any of the teacher asked a question. And Lance was sometimes called out by the teacher for talking in class.
And though they had may friends in common, they had never talked to each other.

——

One weekend Pidge had plans to go meet a friend of hers at a coffee shop. She was kind of sad from things that happened so she was looking forward to venting with someone.

She was there a bit earlier so she sat down at a table.

Her mind was blank for a while. All she could hear was was the murmur caused by all the conversations around her. Some of them were good, others weren't soo good. There were some conversations that stood out. A girl was asking someone to be her maid of honor; Pidge always thought weddings were pointless, she didn't quite agree with the whole "soulmates" thing. Other conversation that stood out was an argument. As far as she understood, they were a couple, she didn't understand what they were fighting about but their arguments and insults where getting personal. It was very bad, even Pidge was a bit hurt about one thing they said, she tuned them out immediately.

-God, relationships suck-she thought to herself.
-Ding- someone opened the door.

-Is that?-.

There she saw him. Pidge didn't have a strong opinion on Lance; she thought of him as a dork and a man whore but nothing much. They talked some times in the past but never actually had an actual conversation. One thing she did admit, he was quite cute. And at that exact moment in time, he looked...good.

Pidge accommodated the ribbon on her hair. She heard a ping. A text message. From Hunk.

-so sorry, can't make it, have to babysit. We'll meet another time 😊😊-.

Great, now she was just waiting there, looking like an idiot.
She felt that a pair of eyes were locked to her. She looked up and saw Lance immediately turn around, god she felt like a freak.

Out of her bag, she took a book she was going to give to Hunk and started reading.

A minute or so later, someone came up to her.

-Hey!- It was Lance- Waiting for someone?-.
-Oh! ehh... no I'm not-she was a bit flustered and blushy, he was really good looking.
-Can I sit?-.
-Yeah, sure-.
-Here, brought you this- Lance handed her a cup- I don't know if you like coffee but, it's cold so... I assume you like hot chocolate?-.
-I do, thanks- She reached for the cup and their hands touched. Lance giggled nervously, pulled his hand away and scratched the back of his neck.
-Soo... I was stood up by a friend- Said Pidge to break the ice- Why are you here alone?-.
-Oh... well...- He looked a bit embarrassed- I was supposed to meet a girl here, for a date... two hours ago-.
-Ohhh... did she have any excuse?-.
-Nah, I messaged her and she never read it-.
There was an uncomfortable pause for a second.
-But it's okay, I didn't really like her anyways-.
-Then why did you agree to a date with her?-.
-It's better than being alone-.
-You mean to tell me that all the girls you date, are just to forget you're alone- She was a kind of mad-.
-It's not like they like me either- He explained himself- See, I'm less the player and more the played-.
-I'm sorry-.
-What for?-.
-I don't know, your life seems... kinda sad-.
-Well... if I'm never sad, how will I ever be happy-.
-That was... surprisingly smart-.
-What do you mean "surprisingly"?-.
Pidge started laughing, she had to admit, he was funny, in a stupid kind of way.
-I am truly offended- he said jokingly.
They laughed for a while. Maybe this day wasn't so bad after all....
