August's tears stream down her face as she jogs back towards her parents' house. She knew Jackson was mad at her but she never dreamed he would be so mad he would do something like this, especially after they had stayed the night together before she left. To see him with Isabelle again and so early in the morning, she knew they had to have stayed the night together. The way he was holding her as he kissed her was so painful to watch. How could he already be sleeping with a girl he had only been on one date with. She turns down an alleyway and leans back against a brick wall as she tries to catch her breath. She pulls out her phone as she looks down to check on Carter.
"Auggie? What is wrong?" Sydney's voice sounds sleepy.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you." August knows she can't hide her feelings as she speaks.
"No, it is fine. I'm up. What is it?"
"I just saw Jax with that same girl he was on a date with last Sunday." August wipes her tears as she sees people looking at her as they pass by the alleyway. "He was holding her hand and kissing her. It is so early. I think she stayed the night with him."
"What? Where are you? I'm going to come kill him." August can hear Sydney banging around through the phone.
"I don't understand why he would do this. And he looked at Carter like he hated him."
"Seriously. I can hurt him if you want."
"I think I hurt him too badly this time. It is my own fault. I completely lost him."
"I can hold him and you can beat him."
"Sydney. We are not going to beat him up." August shakes her head at Sydney as she adjusts Carter's blanket he has kicked off.
"Well, then why don't you see if your parents can watch Carter tonight and I will take you out and get your mind off of him?"
"I don't feel like going out Sydney."
"Please? One girl's night. We haven't had a girl's night in almost three years." With no reply from August, Sydney pleas more. "Please? Don't make me come drag you from your parents' house."
"Fine. I need to drink a lot though."
"Done. I will pick you up at six. You better look hot."
"I have had two kids. I don't think I can look hot anymore."
"I said look hot."
"Okay."
"This is going to be a beautiful night." Sydney's tone is filled with excitement.
"Yay." August can't hide her sarcasm.
"I promise you will not even know who Jackson is by the end of the night."
"See you tonight then." August hangs up the phone and pushes Carter back out onto the sidewalk from the alleyway before she continues her jog back to her parents' house.
Sydney arrives just after 6:00 pm to pick up August. "Hi Sydney." Tammy hugs Sydney as she invites her inside.
"Hi, Mrs. Brim."
"August is out back in Mark's man cave, we made it into an apartment for her. She should be in here to drop Carter off any minute." As Tammy is speaking, August knocks on the back door. "See, there they are!" She motions for them to come inside.
"Hey Syd. I didn't know you were already here."
"I just got here."
Tammy takes Carter from August. "Come see Grammy sweet boy."
August is wrapped in a black silky coat with black high heels that have ribbons tied around her ankles. Her makeup is simple and her hair is tied halfway up with all her usual waves straightened. "Are you ready?" August looks over to Sydney.
"Yes I am."
