There he was again, camped out outside Stevie's house waiting for something, anything. What exactly, Lindsey didn't know. It had been months since Stevie left. That night, when Karen called, she told Lindsey that Stevie was going to take some time off, she needed a vacation, but who goes on vacation for months at a time even if they are worldwide superstars, with millions in their bank account. Besides, Stevie got easily bored. She always needed to be involved in something and she was, as far as Lindsey knew, her record wasn't close to being finished. Why would she just up and leave. Well, he understood why she had to get away for a while, but not for as long as it had been already.
Lindsey tried to get some information from other sources, for example Mick Fleetwood. He might not have been a big fan of it, but Stevie and Mick had always had a close friendship, even after he'd left her for one of her best friends'. Lindsey was hopeful that Mick knew something, that he'd share it with him. Although, it was probably silly of him to think so, Mick had always been an ally of Stevie's more than he was of Lindsey's. Then there were Lori and Sharon, but Lindsey didn't even bother. They had never liked him, they wouldn't betray Stevie's trust if they knew where to find her.
To say that Lindsey was obsessed would be an understatement. He had a newborn at home, Kristen definitely needed help with their baby, but that wasn't his priority at the moment. He did feel bad about it, he wasn't heartless, but finding Stevie seemed to be more important right now.
Admitting defeat, just like every time, Lindsey started the engine of his car. He drove around for a while with the radio on, before eventually finding his way back home. He knew exactly what awaited him. Kristen was going to be pissed at him. However, Lindsey hardly listened to her rants. He knew it without being told that he wasn't a supportive boyfriend, that he wasn't an attentive father. The boyfriend bit didn't bother him too much, but he hated himself for not being there for his son. The only conclusion Lindsey came to was that he was depressed. He was happy when Stevie returned to his life, they reconciled, they became friends again, he realized he had never stopped loving her, they made love and then she vanished, leaving his heart broken and bleeding. If only she had given him the chance to explain himself, maybe he'd feel differently, but she told him to leave and then disappeared herself.
"We need to talk." Kristen spoke up after laying Will down in his crib.
"About what?" Lindsey asked, not overly interested as he continued channel surfing.
"This..." She showed between them. "This isn't working, Lindsey. I can't even call it a relationship. We have a month old baby and you're never here to help me. You're obsessed with your ex girlfriend still. Can't you take a hint? She doesn't want anything to do with you anymore."
"I'm sorry." He said, but it didn't sound very sincere.
"You're somewhere else all the time. Even now, you're not paying any attention to me. I'm trying to have a conversation with you and your eyes are glued to the TV." Lindsey shrugged. "See, you don't even care. You're so indifferent and it's driving me insane. This is not the life I've wanted."
"Me either." Lindsey replied.
Kristen stared at him in disbelief. "Did you just really say that?"
"You heard me." He nodded his head lazily.
"Then what are we even doing here? Who are we trying to fool?" Kristen laughed humorlessly. "We've had this talk before, I told you that I'm not going to keep you away from your son. That still stands. If neither of us is happy, maybe we should just stop pretending? I'll pack my bags and just leave. I think that would be easier for the both of us." Lindsey remained quiet. "Is there any hope for this relationship? Maybe we just need some time apart?"
"Maybe." His short answers were driving her crazy.
"I'll stay with my parents for a while. It will give you some time to think and figure out what it is you really want." Kristen said, sounding like the mature one out of the two of them. "We'll leave in the morning. You know where to find us."
Kristen took another look at Lindsey, his eyes didn't meet hers. She sighed, guessing that he had already made a decision.
