"Are you excited?" Jonah asked his daughter as they arrived at the station. The pair had planned on going to the zoo today because they hadn't been in a while.
"Yea Dada, lila cited!" The little girl exclaimed to her father, clapping her hands. She had always had a fascination with animals and, like her father, loved trains so having two in one day was like an early birthday present for her.
She mindlessly babbled in her pushchair as they got closer to the platform, which wasn't too crowded since it was after rush hour. Even though it wasn't crowded, Jonah still decided to walk right to the end of the platform, as there was a bit more space there.
He noticed a teenager, probably a few years younger than himself, resting his back against the tiled wall of the platform, his hood covering his head which was bowed slightly.
He walked closer to the tracks as he heard the train coming from within the tunnel. He saw the boy look up. Time began to slow down as he noticed him walking, stepping in front of the yellow line, Jonah stepped behind him and was glad he did because the boy tried to jump out in front of the train but was stopped by Jonah who grabbed onto his wrists.
The boy spun round and met the face of the man who kept him slaved to the universe and sad eyes met concerned ones.
Grabbing his daughters pushchair and making sure the boy followed him, Jonah got on the train.
"Talk to me," Jonah said to the boy. He didn't reply, instead he burst into uncontrollable tears which is when Jonah realised he was going to do everything in his power to help this boy. He would do it for Tatum.
"Come here," Jonah mumbled, pulling the boy into a hug, letting him cry on his shoulder, not caring about the stares they were receiving.
The boy calmed down after a while, grateful for the comfort of the man's embrace. "Thank you," he whispered, looking down at the floor. He didn't know what to do. No one had ever cared for him this deeply before.
"Don't worry about it, now come on." Jonah said, ushering him out of the train as it pulled to a Holt. He was resistant at first but decided his life was bad enough as it is so if he was killed, at least he didn't have to put the effort into doing it himself.
