The Temple
Tulip woke up in a cold sweat. She had a nightmare about Aphrodite saying awful things about them, and it seemed more realistic than usual. "Rosy?" Tulip shook her friend softly. "What?" Rosy mumbled. "We should get up now," Tulip said.
"5 more minutes," Rosy grumbled. "No Rosy, come on, Carter's probably waiting for us," Tulip argued. "Fine," Rosy said, rolling onto her feet. They woke the other girls up and changed for breakfast. "I'm excited to see their restaurant, it'll probably be fancy," Katelyn grinned.
"Anyone still tired say ay," Rosy groaned. "ay..." They all moaned. They stumbled their way to breakfast and found Carter. "Ready to meet Aphrodite?" Carter asked, sitting down at an empty table. "As ready as I'll ever be," Tulip said, nervously toying with her chiton.
Before long, the girls were sitting down to sausages, eggs, pancakes, waffles, orange juice, and whatever else they desired. "Done," Rosy said, wiping her mouth with a napkin. "We're still eating," Emery reminded. "Can I have more water?" Nadia asked the waiter. The waiter nodded and returned with a pitcher of ice water.
He was about the pour it into her glass, but tripped and fell, flinging the pitcher at them. Carter swiftly raised his hand, and the pitcher fell to the floor. The water was still floating, motionless in the air, but he dropped his hand and let it fall. "Whoa," Katelyn cried, "how'd you do that?!" Carter smiled, "son of Poseidon, remember?"
"Cool!" Nadia said, gawking at the spilled water. "Can I get new water?" She asked the waiter again.
The waiter smiled and took her cup to the back. When all the girls finished, they paid the check and grabbed their purses. "Off to the temple, then?" Carter asked, speeding up his pace as they walked. "Yep," Tulip replied, pushing down her fear. They left the Inn and began their walk to the temple.
The girls stopped to admire the ruins every once in a while, and Katelyn and Emery insisted on taking pictures every so often. They walked past houses, shops, people, trees, lampposts, and signs, until finally finding the great temple. The front of the temple was lined with columns to hold up the top half, and tourists walked through the designated path created. Carter took them behind the temple, and into a dark, narrow tunnel. They walked into rooms with hollow ceilings.
"I'm going to take you into Malta's Hypogeum, it's right up ahead," Carter said. They finally found the room, but someone had already got there first. A shadow loomed over the walls, and when they saw it, they gasped. A grey cloaked figure was standing there, smiling. "Hello pretties," she cooed, in a raspy voice.
