"I had things to do. You know you're not my number one priority, if you can remember correctly I had to bury my dead mother's body." He said after clearing his throat, tying to sound like she wasn't his number one priority, his true reason for finally being able to breathe again.

Her gaze softened and once again her eyes filled slightly with her tears.

"I remember just fine, Lucas" she whispered, not even touching the snide words before. "I remember finding you standing so protectively over her poor dead body, yet even when I offered, you didn't turn to me. Do you know how that hurt me? To see you, who I've loved since that fateful night in that forest to turn away from me when you needed me most?

Set Me Free: Chapter 4

As Lucas starred into Lily's tear filled eyes, he felt like his heart was breaking...again.

He had left 3 years ago for just this reason. It killed him to know that he was the reason for her pain and tears.

He wanted to wrap her in his arms, whisper his love as she smelled her sweet scent and felt her warm body next to his.

What choice did he have, she was forever to young, to innocent, to sweet to be tainted with him and the evil that would eternally touch his life. But damn wouldn't just be everything he ever wanted to kiss those sweet full lips.

She had been everything he'd ever wanted since she was 16. All the others paled in comparison to the natural beauty, of Lily. But he'd rather take a bullet in the knee than tell her that, as if she needed more reason to try to trap him with the love he felt for her.

He had never admitted it, but he was not naïve, he knew she knew. Probably had known for years.

There was no way she had not seen it in his eyes, felt it in his touch, his voice. Damn he loved that woman to distraction.

Lily shook her head at the look in his eyes. Why couldn't the pig headed man finally admit how much he loved her?

Then she could finally live the happily ever she had dreamed of for what seemed like forever.

Finally she took a deep breath, and started to walk towards him.

She almost laughed at the desperate look on his face.

He probably thought that distance would keep her contained, she would be damned if she would wait one more minute to feel his arms around her. Three years was a real long time, full of cold sleepless nights and long lonely days.

"Lucas, hold me...I've missed you so."

She whispered putting just a little pleading in her voice, knowing he could never resist that tone.

She watched his troat work as he gulped loudly and could see the want and worry cross his face.

She saw the exact moment he gave into his needs she saw clearly in his eyes, and let out a relieved sigh as he opened his arms, offering her the only true solace she'd had in three years.
