Beside the shamen Ryke, a small mound of earth appeared. Unfurling like the petals of a flower greeting the morning sun. The earth peeled back to reveal a hot, sweaty, exhausted looking Cas, curled into a tight ball. Helping him to his feet, Ryke began checking for wounds, fussing over him as though he were a newborn. Irritable due to his defeat, Cas assured the boy that he was fine with a dismissive wave of his hand, turning instead to face the field, eager to see the battle that was about to ensue.
Hearts swelled with pride and relief at the sight of Vada, but none dare move and a deadly hush fell over the mountains.
The previously bright blue sky began to darken and the wind halted altogether, abandoning them as though nature itself knelt before the kin Chieftess.
None were as gleeful as Aegar. The great dragon had lost his elegant emerald green plumage over the last few dreary days. In celebration of Vada's return he pounced forwards, jubilant, landing so heavily that the earth shook. Spreading his almighty wings wide he threw his head back, craning towards the sky to let out a vigorous roar. Slowly his scales seemed to shift from one shade to another until he was once again his old, bright, beautiful self.
'Blood of my blood, together we will be victorious and send this rabble running with their villainous tails between their legs!' Aegar announced, eye's twinkling and fangs bared.
'No!' Vada asserted, projecting her voice with the aid of the wind that readily bent to her will, 'I must do this alone!'
A raucous rush of cheering erupted from the ranks of the kin. The force of their overwhelming emotions slammed into Vada's body like a tidal wave, fuelling the fire within her further. Already she burned like never before, but now, with the support of her people she felt as though she would burst and envelop the world with the heat her body generated.
The blood in her veins seemed to double, thunderous in her ears. Recalling the way she felt when her kin blood was first awoken, she surmised that the sensation was similar but enhanced. It was a wonder she was able to control herself at all, Vada thought.
'Enough with the theatrics!' Han'ril boomed. A great pulsating vein bulged on his forehead as his face turned red with rage, 'DESTROY HER!'
Bram's body lurched forward.
Vada watched the great hulking figure advancing, observing the way his agility increased with every step. Reaching for the earth around her she called out to him, attempting to break through the prison in which the true Bram was trapped. But it was no use, he was buried so deep that she was unable to reach him.
