A few days later, I sit at my desk as the bell rings and all the kids stand, waiting for their parents to pick them up. Mia and I wait 15 minutes for them all to leave before she walks over to shut the door, turning towards me with a concerned look. The past few days, I made sure to get to class as soon as the kids did because I really didn't want to talk to my best friend about all the things that had happened between Julian and I. I also made sure to leave as soon as the last kid did, but, now, I was trapped.
I woke up the past few mornings to tons of texts from Julian to just ask me if I was safe and if he could come over so we could talk about things. He tried to explain himself, but there was no explanation he could give me that would make all of this better instantly. Andrea had somehow also gotten my number, probably from Julian, and she had just asked me if I was okay and told me that if I needed anything to just let her know.
I didn't look up as Mia walks over to me, her boots making a heel sound on the ground that made my nerves heighten even more. She walks around my desk, sitting on the edge of it as she reaches out to set her hand on my shoulder. "You're good at tricking the kids that you're okay, but you're not good at tricking me. What happened?"
I look up at her, tears starting to well up in my eyes as I bite on my lip when it starts to quiver. Her eyes soften when she sees that and her hand tightens on my shoulder as I let out a sigh. "Thanksgiving night, you know, the night that I told him that I wanted to try out this relationship and everything, he went home and fucked his ex-boyfriend."
She gasps with a super shocked look before pulling me into a tight hug. Her hands start to run up-and-down my back as I start to cry into her shoulder. "Miles, I am so sorry. I'm so incredibly sorry."
"I knew everything was too good to be true," I whisper into her shoulder. She lets out a sigh, running her hand through my hair before pulling back to wipe the tears away.
"I know you're hurt, sweetheart. I know, so just give it some time to settle before you decide anything, alright? You get to decide now, Mila, you do," she tells me and I nod my head, realizing that she was completely right because this was my decision now. I get to choose what I want, but the problem was, I didn't know what I wanted. I didn't know if this was the end of us and I didn't even know if I wanted to try to work through it. There was one part of me that desperately wanted to be with him, but the other part was begging me not to. I didn't know who to listen to.
"I don't know what I want," I whisper to her.
"You're mad and you're upset. You won't know until you give it some time. You deserve to scream at him and tell him what you're feeling and if you want to do that, then do it. You have the right to be mad at him, okay? You have the right," she tells me with a fierce tone, telling me that she was also mad at Julian for what he did to me.
"Can we do something tonight? I don't want to be alone and I also don't want to go back to my mom's house. Bailey's still there so I'll have to go back eventually, but not now. I can't face them now," I ask her and she nods her head, running her thumb under my eye to wipe away a stray tear.
"Of course, we'll go drink our hearts out, okay? It's the weekend anyway, we get to do what we want," she tells me and we start to plan when I'll meet up with her and Ned tonight as we walk out to the parking lot since she had offered to drive me home for the day.
Later in the night, Mia, Ned, and I sat in a booth at a bar with empty glasses surrounding us as my head was dizzy because I was drunk like I was so close to being blackout that Mia had to take away my drink. All I wanted to do was drown out the world, which I was doing. I giggled as Ned almost fell on his way out of the booth since he didn't see the step to get another shot for Mia since he was the DD for the night and he glared when he heard our laughs.
