We had swam for a few hours all together and I was relieved that Dan didn't bring up his conversation with Caden. Although, Sam has been here the whole time.
Sam was nervous at first before she slowly calmed down and she was laughing, her very real and natural laugh, with Daniel and I.
I was happy I could help her, and she was actually a really great person. I think she's the second friend I made here.
Daniel and Sam were the best parts of this pack, I think without Daniel I would never have left my room. And without Sam I wouldn't have a girl to talk to, which would suck.
"Smoothie time?" Sam asked and I nodded as we climbed out of the lake and wrapped towels around ourselves.
"That sounds great Sam," Daniel said and I agreed. It did sound great. I watched him as he ran his eyes over her and I saw a small smile escape before he reluctantly turned away as she threw clothes on.Back at the house Sam insisted on making the smoothies for all three of us. I tried to help but she would only let me chop the greens off the strawberries. And Daniel received a slap to the back of his hand as she playfully scolded him for trying to steal blueberries.
"Oh my gosh Sam! This is delicious!" I said in pleasant surprise as I swallowed the first sip.
"Yeah? We don't have pomegranate or it would be better."
"Better? This is the best smoothie I've ever had in my life."
"I agree Sammy! This does taste fantastic. It's amazing." Daniel said as he stared at her.
"Sammy?" She asked and I laughed.
"And I'm Cupcake, I don't get it either."
"Yeah, you're my girls, Sammy and Cupcake."
"I definitely drew the short straw." I said and he scowled at me.
"What's wrong with Cupcake?"
"It's so frilly and... Yuck."
"You hurt me Cupcake," he said with a pout and we all laughed.
"Okay, but if anyone else calls me Cupcake you better kick the crap out of them."
"You're my girls, no one else gets these rights."
We both laughed and I noticed that Sam seemed so happy right now that she couldn't stop herself from smiling.
That is until three people walked in.
"Hey Sam. Want to come to the mall with- What are you doing with them?"
I didn't like how she said 'them' and honestly I thought Sam would just revert back to her old self, her nervous self. And it was weird that they would even say that since technically I'm going to be Luna.
She hunched her shoulders before she glanced at me, then Daniel, and back to me. Her back straightened.
"Meet Daniel, and Blake. They're my friends, and I was drinking a smoothie with 'them'."
"Friends? Really? You've known them how long?"
"I've known you guys how long and you aren't my friends, so I don't think time is a valid point."
I saw their mouths open slightly before two of them put their nose in the air and walked out.
"Remember that you were nothing before us and you'll be nothing after."
"No, I was nothing with you. But now I most definitely am something. And I like it."
The blonde stuck her hands on her hips before she got angry and stomped out of the room.
"You are something Sam," I said, "And I like you too."
She smiled, "Thanks. Both of you."
"Anything for my girls." Daniel said. I heard a growl and saw Caden at the door. I rinsed my cup out.
"I'm going to get changed. I'm still sitting in my wet swim suit." I noticed Sam was growing tense from being in the same room as the alpha, "Sam, coming?" She sighed in relief before nodding.
I left before anyone could say anything else.
"Your girls? Yours Dan?" I heard Caden snap before it went silent and I assume they were talking through the link, or went outside. Or they were whispering and we were too far away to hear.
Fine by me, I didn't need another guilt trip.
I followed her to her room and she closed the door behind us.
"You can sit wherever. Make yourself at home."
"Thanks." I sat on the end of her bed and sighed as I fell backwards ending up on my back with my eyes closed.
I heard her getting changed and stayed where I was.
"I know you're Luna-"
"Not yet."
"Okay, I know you're going to be Luna, and I respect your authority, but can I ask you something?"
"Of course. Anything."
"Well, if its too personal just tell me to shut up or whatever."
I sat up and looked at her, "Just ask Sam."
"Okay... Why did you leave when your mate came in?"
"We're not mated."
"Yet."
"Yet." I agreed.
"Are you two in a fight?"
I thought about it for a moment, "I guess you could call it that."
She looked completely confused, "If it's not a fight what is it? I've only ever seen you together at the introduction at dinner."
I slowly nodded before studying her. Could I trust her? Something in me already did. "We're not your average couple."
"Well you're alpha so-"
"No, I mean, I- we never- I met him- Its arranged. I was forced into this."
Her eyes widened as her jaw fell in shock, "What?"
"I was the first born of my old pack, but my father wanted to ally his pack and Caden's, so we're mating."
"What the hell?"
I laughed, "Thats what I thought."
"But you should be alpha of your old pack. How can they do that? Did Alpha agree to this?"
"Caden and my father decided this. So yes, Caden agreed."
"Wow, I would kill him, and my father."
I slowly nodded, "Well, I want to. Honestly, I avoid him all the time, and can't stand being somebody's property."
"Duh, you have alpha blood in you. I'm surprised you didn't strike when you were given an order."
"Yeah well, it was me against two other alphas, so..."
"That's true. Do you blame him? I would!"
"Well, it's half his decision, so yeah. Although I can see why he did it since it was for the pack. He must need to ally right?"
"I guess that's true."
We sat in silence.
"Did you guys ever know each other before?"
"No. My father said I had to meet someone, so I went to his office. I shook hands with Caden and left. The next day I found out who he was. All I knew was that he is alpha of this pack and that I'm now considered his."
"That's crappy."
I nodded, "Yeah. Is it that obvious though? That I avoid him?"
"Yeah. Pretty much."
"I know what it's like to have people look up to you. Being the alphas daughter. I don't want his pack to know this was arranged."
"Why not?"
"Because really, what alpha can't find a woman to love him for eternity?"
"That's true." It fell silent and we went to my room and I changed before I sat beside her.
"Advice?"
"Well, I wouldn't leave again next time he comes in the room if anyone else is there. Maybe greet him or smile even, you know?"
"That's true."
"Does anyone else know?"
"He said only Daniel does, because he's beta."
"Oh. Okay. I'll try."Suddenly I panicked, "Dear God, they're going to find out. Who wants a forced Luna? Nobody will take me seriously. His pack will make him the laughing stock."
"Calm down Blake. You just have to act for one night every once in a while."
"For the rest of my life."
"Yeah. Good luck with that. Practice will make it easier."
"That's helpful Sam." I said sarcastically. We both laughed and after we calmed down she followed me outside.
"You don't share a room?"
"If we share a room, we have to share a bed Sam. No way that's happening."
"Okay, I'll give you that."
"Does he sleep in his room?"
"He said he sleeps in the room off his office. Apparently there's a bed and shower or something."
She nodded thoughtfully, "Then why don't you use his room if he isn't."
"Because it's his."
"I see."
"Please don't tell me I'm overreacting."
"What? No! I can't imagine being in your shoes. I'd freak the hell out. If anything, you're way calmer than I would be. I wouldn't care what his pack thought, they would know that I was forced to be where I was, and they would know that their alpha forced me to do it."
"Well, I'm trying to be calm."
"No, you're succeeding. The pack loved you at dinner. Everyone said you made such a cute couple."
"Well good news, I'm a good actor."
She laughed and we said our goodbyes and agreed to eat dinner tomorrow together.
