(Then)
Derick. He was like the sun on my rainy days, and my warmth when I was cold. He brought out the best in me in ways no one could bring out of me or understand. He was tall, blonde, and weird. Just my type of guy. Days, and then eventually weeks had passed. Of course I tried harder at swimming while he would be at practice, you know, just in case he was watching. I only improved a little bit but it helped!
Derick was the only reason why I would show up to practice. He was my reason to try harder at anything and everything I did. He never really acknowledged me a lot, but when he did, it was amazing! My heart would flutter with joy, and when I turned to look away I'd have a big smile on my face for at least 2 minutes.
Every time he talked to me it was amazing! My smile would reappear and my eyes would water with joy, but he had a girlfriend and I wouldn't get in the way of that or ruin whatever it was we had.
Every time I had the most awful day in the world, if I looked at him, heard him, or heard someone say his name, it would make that day all worth while. In an instant it would make me feel better.
(Now)
I see Derick everyday. Usually it's in the mornings while I pass him on my way to class, or when I'm leaving 2nd period I'll pass him. It just makes me see how happy he is, and when he's happy, I'm happy.
