Moon was in her sleeping cave and so was Winter. She had a feeling that Kinkajou was trying to set them up, but she didn't care.
"You don't have to be sorry, Moon. Your perfect. More than you could ever know.
Acually, that's you. You're perfect, not me.
Moon looked at Winter's perfect, pale blue scales, and his beautiful eyes. He was perfect, not her. Moon heard the buzz of the sky fire, and thought she could just dive into it.
"I don't know how to say it Moon."
"Say what?"
"That I - uh..."
Love me? No. He doesn't love me. He shouldn't either. He should have someone closer to perfect, like him. If only he did...
He kept gazing at her, though. She couldn't help hoping, although she really didn't want to get her hopes up, only to be disappointed.
She kept hearing little noises outside, but she didn't know what it was. He seemed to hear them too, but most of his focus was on her.
She tried to breath, and found her lungs weren't working properly.
He took a breath, and then another, and then one more, and it felt like the ground was tilting, around and around, and so she decided not to stand up.
"Moon - I" He started again.
She tried once more to breath, but it was still impossible.
"I don't - I mean I - I want to - I can't -"
"Can't what?" Moon asked. She was surprised She could speak.
She still couldn't breathe though.
He took another breath.
"Moon -"
"Yes?"
He took yet another breath. He seemed to be able to breathe just fine, and he did it more than usual. As for her, it was the opposite.
"Moon I - I want to and I'm sorry - I can't - I don't know - I want to - I - I'm trying but I - I can't and I don't know why Moon. Why can't I tell you?!"
"Tell me what?"
She tried again to breathe, but it still didn't work.
"I want to tell you that I - that I - I -"
Suddenly he reached out to brush her snout. As he did, his eyes caught on something. Her eyes, but next to them?
What in Pirrhia?
Suddenly he bent down and ripped off his sky fire, exposing his thoughts.
Moon - I love you. He thought.
Suddenly she found she could breathe again.
"Winter - I - I love you too."
