Weeks go by, and it is now May. All the boys and I have been very good friends ever since the day we met, but Luke and I had a different type of relationship. We flirt with each other a lot, but normally hang out with our whole group of friends, not by ourselves. I really wanted to hang out with Luke alone (like a date), but I don't know how to ask. Everything I say just turns out awkward and I don't want to ruin our friendship. But he's all I've been thinking about since the day I met him.
*One morning in May*
I get up around 4:30 one school morning, long before my mom would normally come in to wake me up. I sit up in my bed and reach my hands towards the ceiling, stretching my back and my arms. I yawn and scratch the back of my head and walk downstairs to make myself a good breakfast. I decide to pour myself a glass of orange juice and make some bacon. While the bacon cooks in the microwave, I throw two pieces of bread in the toaster, so I can make a small sandwich. *Toast and bacon are my OTP* The kitchen starts to fill up with the smell of bacon and my mouth waters. The microwave shows that there is only ten seconds until my bacon is done, so I begin to countdown out loud. 10... 9... 8... 7... 6... 5... 4... 3... 2... Once it reaches two I jump, pressing the end button before it hits one and beeps. I pop open the microwave and grab the plate. My toast is done too, so I form a sandwich, sit down at the table, and scroll through twitter on my phone. This is my ideal morning.
I eventually go upstairs and get ready for school and my mom drives me again. When I walk up the front steps, I see Calum sitting next to a girl on the bench and it reminds me of the first time I met him. I smile and wave to him when he looks up at me. I don't want to bother him, I mean he's probably flirting with her, so I push open the heavy doors to the high school.
I go to my locker and get my books and head to first period, which is Geometry. I open the door and walk into the classroom; I'm one of the first to enter. I hand some worksheets that I made up to my teacher and he hands back graded ones to me. It's weird to start a new school a couple of weeks ago because now it's almost June, but my mom thought it would be good to keep up my studies. I take a look through the different worksheets, startled to see C's and D's. I was usually an A or B student. "Mr. Hughes," I say, "What did I do?"
"I think you just need a little more instruction. I can recommend tutors to help you because it's almost time for finals. Would you be okay with that?"
"Yeah, who should help me?" I ask. I was nervous. I didn't want to be paired with someone I didn't like.
"Well I have a few A students. Let's see, Kelly, Finn, Rebecca, and Luke are very good students. Ask one of them. They can help you."
"Okay, that's great! Thank you!" I say to him and then head to my seat. I see Luke sitting in his chair and then he turns to face me. I sit down and he asks, "What was that about?"
"Oh... well... um," I say and blush a little. I'm not too fond of the idea of needing a tutor. "Since I've been getting some bad grades he was recommending tutors for me."
He taps his fingers on the desk and looks up in my eyes. "What nerds did he recommend for you?" He smirks, and I can tell he's trying to act tough.
"He said Kelly, Finn, Rebecca and..." I drag the names on a little because I didn't want to make him feel bad. I didn't want to break his "tough guy" reputation.
"And who?" He questions.
"You," I say quietly.
"Oh," He blushes a lot. "Sorry about that before.. um... I can help you, though. Want to come study tonight?"
"Yeah, I would love to. Which house is yours?"
"It's number 96. It's only about 5 down from you."
