The day of Slughorn's Christmas party arrived, and everyone in the club couldn't help but dread it. It was nothing like the Yule Ball; it lacked musicians, real dancing, and overall hype.
History of Magic was the last class of the day, and the students couldn't help but be entranced with Professor Mavis' lesson on the first war against Voldemort. She described his becoming, how he went from an ordinary boy to a monster.
She didn't know the exact details, but she made her students feel chills down their spines as she spoke of the intense switch.
Caspar and Anna sat beside each other, holding hands under the table. They had been on a cloud of happiness for the past month. Since he had confessed his true feelings and allowed Anna to be okay with those of her own, good or bad, she couldn't help but fall for the boy.
Harry was out of her heart and mind, being seen as a mere friend....almost.
The raven-haired boy couldn't help but feel hurt by this but hid it to the best of his ability. He genuinely wanted Anna to be happy, yet there was just something shifty about Caspar Mundy...he couldn't quite figure it out.
Caspar refused to show any signs of distrust and treated Anna better than anyone else had ever before. This angered Harry immensely.
"What time do you want to meet up before the party tonight?" asked the boy softly, causing Anna to smile merely at the sound of his voice.
But the cuteness didn't last long. Kate Mavis stopped her lecture and cast a glare to Caspar. "So, you think talking about a Christmas party is more important than my lecture, Mundy?"
"I just wanted to ask so I wouldn't forget-"
"A Ravenclaw such as yourself shouldn't be so prone to...forgetting," scowled the woman. "Tell me, what were the exact dates of the start and end of the first Wizarding War?"
"I-I'm not exactly sure-"
"What's Voldemort's full name? Why is his alias Voldemort?"
"Tom Riddle and-"
"I said full name," she said with a smirk, yet her eyes held disdain. "Mundy, I suggest you pay attention? Your time in this class is meant to benefit you by listening. I may as well be talking to a wall."
She continued on and Caspar clenched his jaw, trying to suppress the redness of embarrassment from showing on his face.
"I'm sorry about her," whispered Anna.
Caspar shook his head, "Whatever, only two minutes left anyway-"
"Why are you counting this class down like it's New Years' Eve?" asked the teacher, yet again looking at the boy. "I just told you to quiet yourself and now you're infringing upon Miss Black's education? I think you've earned yourself a detention. Tonight. 7:30."
"What?! I can't, there's Slughorn's party-"
She smirked. "I'm aware of the fact, you just mentioned it earlier-"
Anna couldn't help but cut in. "Kate, he's my date-"
"I am an adult, you will refer to me by my proper title," said the woman nonchalantly, knowing Anna wouldn't want her classmates knowing the new teacher was her godmother.
The bell chimed and Anna huffed, grabbing her things and making a beeline for the exit. She ranted to Caspar and offered options to dodge the detention.
He knew better. After finding out the strict professor was Anna's godmother, he knew that everything she did was for a reason.
He hated her for it.
