Demi's POV
When I wake up the next morning, Gabi and Cela are still sleeping. Joe isn't back. I try calling his phone a few times, but he never picks up. I can't help but worry about where he is and what he is doing right now.
Gabi slowly blinks open her eyes. "Is Dad back?" she asks.
I shake my head.
"I'll try calling him," she replies. She has a good idea. He might answer for his daughter.
Cela starts crying after Gabi leaves the room and I feed her. She has already grown so much at only a week old. She is beautiful and I am so grateful for her. If only Joe were here now. We need to raise her right.
"I promise your daddy will be back soon," I say to Cela, even though I know that I cannot promise her something like that.
I lean back on my pillow with Cela resting on my chest and release a deep breath, trying to minimize my stress.
Gabi comes back into the room, tears in her eyes. She's wearing a t-shirt which means that I can see her scars. I won't ask her to cover them, but they do trigger me a little, and make me feel even more sad.
"What's wrong, Sweetheart?" I ask, looking at Gabi.
All she does is shake her head, and I know that Joe didn't answer his phone to talk with her.
I hold out my arm and Gabi climbs into the bed beside me, leaning on my shoulder. She's taller than me, but this act still comforts the two of us.
"Does he even want to come back?" Gabi questions.
"Hopefully," I reply. "Let's just give it some time."
Joe's POV
I feel horrible when I wake up that morning. I am hungover and can't even remember how I got to where I was. All I remember is that my brother, Nick, saw me trying to get into my car. He brought me to his apartment.
"Good morning," Nick says, stepping into the room.
"Nothing good about it," I reply.
"Do you want to call Demi, or would you like me to do it for you?"
"Neither. Let her wait a while."
"Are you sure?" Nick asks.
I nod.
He sighs and leaves the room.
I remember my argument with Demi clearly. She wants to send Gabi to rehab. That is honestly the last thing I want for my baby. She must have gotten this from Demi. I know that. I can only hope that Celesta doesn't turn out like this as well.
Gabi's POV
Dad didn't reply to my calls. He must hate me! I know that he left because of me. Because I'm a horrible person.
I leave Mom's side and go back to my room. I just can't handle seeing her cry right now. What if Dad never comes back to us?
