Ember Harper's POV:
It was late at night, my mind wandering since I could not fall asleep. I stared out the wide window, the moon greeting me with it's dazzling silver shine that grazed my skin through the window glass.
I had a cup of tea in my hands, it almost being scalding and burning me. But, thankfully, it was bearable and I freely continued to stare out to nowhere as I dug over my thoughts.
Every time my thoughts flew to Brutus, almost as if I has nothing else in life to wonder about. I thought about his bulging muscles and a layer of tanned skin that laid on top of them. His abdominal muscles, reaching low until his V-line came to my mind.
Never getting to see what was beneath that boundary, I tried hardly to not think about those kinds of things.I was surrounded with sexual tension, it making my lips thirsty for his and making my lower area pulse with desire.
Damn him and his power to turn me on in less than three minutes.
Suddenly, out of blue, an idea broke through all the sexual thoughts and I smiled genuinely.
Writing. I had a wish to write, pour out all of my wondering onto a paper sheet. I wanted to fill the white blankness with inked words, my thoughts. Unholy and mysterious, a lot of ideas sure did lace around my mind.
Would Brutus mind if I walked to his study and took some? I saw once that he had a stack of white printer paper in one of the drawers in his desk, along with pens rested on it.
I was sure he wouldn't be mad because of a few sheets of paper that were basically meaningless to him, so I got up on my feet.
Not wanting to cause any unwanted noise in the house that often echoed with people's voices and footsteps, I left my slippers at our room and carefully creaked open the room door.
I did not want him to wake up, or Christian. His parents were also staying here for the weekend, so I certainly did not want to take a long time and stall in his office.
Padding over the cold tiled floor, I felt as shocks of shivers spread through my body. Damn me for not wearing socks!
Thankfully, I knew well where his study was and I had no problem in finding the door.
Walking in, I instantly noticed shelves, binders and furniture laying in the thick dark. With a slight struggle to find a switch, I flicked on the lights that were laid in a small chandelier.Squinting my eyes, I walked over to his desk and kneeled next to the set of long drawers that were all easy to slide open.
In the first one were a set of unknown files and words that I certainly did not understand, them including some kind of a land. The second one was filled to the brim with different files, again something that I did not need.
The last one finally had something that I needed, printing papers. I slipped the smooth paper between my fingers and was about to close the drawer, but something caught my eye.A piece of paper that was already written on, it looking damaged from many rips and crumbles on the ends of the sheet.
My mind being extremely curios, I hesitantly picked up the paper in my hands and brought it closer to my face. Many female names were slapped messily onto the paper, the handwriting being the same as Brutus's. Surnames, telephone numbers, many traits and information were also dotted there, making me even more confused that I already was.
What the hell is this?
Deciding that I would ask him the next morning, I folded the paper and scrambled off with a pen also resting in between my fingers.
•
Waking up the next morning, I realized that Brutus was not in bed with me. The other side of the bed was as equally messy as mine, meaning that he must've been in a hurry when he woke up.
Rising myself from the bed, the damaged piece of paper came into my mind again. Why did he have so many women's names written down?
Taking the paper from the nightstand, the place where I put it last night, I rose to my feet and made my way down the stairs.Maybe he was in the kitchen?
After checking the kitchen that was fully empty and cleaned, I walked over to the living room. No one was inside, aside from Christian. He was sitting on one of the couches, his slipper clad feet rested on the coffee table.
"Good morning." I mumbled, nearing him and sitting next to his relaxed body."Good morning, sloth." He greeted with a cheeky grin rested on his lips. Deciding to ignore the new nickname he invented, I leaned back into the couch and averted my gaze to the television.
Some kind of a documentary movie was playing, many animals making it to the screen."Christian, I have a question." I blurted out, deciding that I would ask him about the paper.
"Yeah?"
"What is this?" Asking quietly, I took the paper out if my hand and handed it to him. He looked at it with a confusing look for solid five seconds before his bright eyes blew wide.
He read over the names multiple times, making silence fall upon us as it seemed to strangle me.
"What?" I asked again, seeing that he obviously knew something about this. And I supposed it was nothing near good.
"Where... Where did you find this?" He waved the paper around in the air, choking out his words with a visible struggle.
"I saw it in Brutus's study last night, I needed papers." I explained briefly, still waiting impatiently for the things he was about to tell me.
"Well, this is a list..."
Obviously.
"Of what?" I asked, rising my voice slightly at the stuttering man before me, snapping him out of his thoughts and making him look my way.
"Of women... That Brutus slept with." He blurted out quickly, making my jaw drop instantly. Shock overpowered me, my eyes averting to the paper that was still waving in Christian's hand.
Reaching for it, I felt as tears slowly cascaded in my eyes.
"Ember, don't-""Give me the paper, Christian." I rose my voice again, it being suddenly strong and demanding.
He handed the crumbled paper over at my shaky hand, letting my eyes fly over the names.Twenty-nine names were listed, which meant that he was far from being a virgin.
Replaying the moment when he said that we were destined to be together, when he told me that I am the most beautiful woman he's ever seen, it instantly rose anger inside if me."How did he do it?" I asked the most insane question I could ever ask, making Christian's eyes fly away from my eyes.
"I can't tell you that, I'm sorry."
"Christian, please... I found out the things I shouldn't have already, this won't change anything." I pleaded, a tear already escaping my eye before I could wipe it away.
Exhaling, he accepted the fact that he had to tell me.
"He's a sadist, Ember."
