Ember Harper's POV:

Feeling much more comfortable around this enormous house, I now sat in the kitchen and ate a surprisingly appetizing breakfast, considering it came from Christian's clumsy hands.

Brutus was seated at my left side, the space in front of him unusually empty since he tends to eat a shocking amount of food every day.

"Why aren't you eating it?" Christian asked him, a red apron that said 'kiss the cook' wrapping around his defined torso.

Sometimes, he reminded me of a forty year old man...

"I need to work Christian" he mumbled his response as he still has not looked up from his phone screen.

"But breakfast is the most imp--"

"Just give me a damn toast and shut your mouth!" a growl ripped deep from Brutus' chest, very much surprising me as I almost choked on the food that I was eating.
Christian, however, obeyed the order and placed a fresh piece of toast into Brutus' hand.

Grimacing, Brutus hissed as the scolding hot bread and winced, throwing it against the counter as he started letting out roars of colorful curses.

"Christian!" He scolded with a hard glare floating in his eyes. Christian defended himself, saying that he was 'simply following the orders'.

Just as Brutus was about to respond, the ringtone of his cell phone became audible, thankfully stopping the pointless fight that was about to occur.

Clearly annoyed, he answered the call and put the device up to his ear.
"What?" he snapped

The other person talked on the other line, making Brutus' plump upper lip curl into a snarl.

He was fuming for some reason.

"Find him and bring him to me immediately. i want him outside in an hour, unless you want your head missing!" He spat with anger, clutching the phone way too hard and making the lit up screen crack.

With my eyes widened, I looked over to Christian and noticed that he now took off his apron, his face deadly serious.

What was going on?

despite being truthfully scared, I gave in to my curiosity
"What happened?"

He looked over at me, his look somewhat disapproving.

"Christian, take her up to our room." He said and without any other reaction, he disappeared behind the bulky double door that guarded the house entrance.

Confused and slightly irritated by his plain reaction, I looked over go Christian to see him looking at me also.

"He just wants you to be safe" he said, probably reading off of my face expression.

"Why did he run off with no explanation then?"

"I guess we will find out soon."

Sitting on the bed has now almost become a routine for me, the deadly sickening silence seeming to strangle me as I wanted to find some sort of entertainment.
But since Brutus was not exactly the man for hobbies, that was especially hard.

Not even Christian was here to keep me company, he said he had something very much important.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, various deep voices rose into shouting. I jumped up, running up to the closest window in sight and peeked through the thin curtains.
Three males and one gigantic wolf, most likely werewolf, were gathered around a man that was helplessly sprawled on the rocky road.

Empathy exploded in my chest as I saw that one of the unknown men started landing kicks into the poor man's abdomen, making him flinch and slump back onto the road.

I turned around and ran, fully hoping that won't trip on my way outside. The house was quiet, only echoing with the padding sounds of my bare feet slapping against the tiled floor.

Making my way outside, I noticed that Christian was now the one hurting the man that had his back turned to me.

"Christian, what are you doing?" I shouted, watching as his eyes looked into mine shockingly.

"Ember, get inside. Now." He demanded in a growl, slightly affecting me as I was not used to him talking to me in this tone.

"Ember." I suddenly heard a hauntingly familiar voice calling my name as I watched the man on the ground turn around.

And just then, in that moment, my body fell into a horrific state of shock as I was now facing the man of my nightmares.

I will soon be publishing a book that will be called Rogue Blood, I hope you're ready for one of my favorite books I've ever written.
