Fighting Off The Demons

Chapter 17

George's pov

"Ok it's time for bed guys we're drunk as hell" Tim announced after we've spent few hours drinking and chatting away happily.

Jay stood up first staggering a little.
"Goodnight guys and George help the drunk girls to their room"

"Lets go pal" Tim motioned to Jay and they surpported themselves laughing loudly off into the house before I coukd ask about their rooms.

I sighed as I looked at the drunk girls with their face on the table. They drank their hearts out while I was still sane because I drank only a little.
"I'm sorry, I would just drop you off on the sofa"

I stood up from my seat. Since they were sitting beside each other, I supported them with both of arms around each of them and started walking them into the house.

Since they were muttering unintelligible words now, they were probably awake but oblivious of everything happen.

I supported them to the living room and I laid each of them on a sofa, I grabbed a pillow and I put it under Sam's head to prevent her from having neck cramps if she wakes up. I took a pillow and took long strides to the sofa I laid Lara.

I lowered my body close to hers to lift her head and insert the building. I stopped halfway, she looked like Tina when she sleep.

I remembered immediately that when mom and dad were so busy that they couldn't come home at night. Tina would throw a fit that she can't sleep alone because she was afraid. I would always allow her to sleep in my room or I would sleep in hers. When she's asleep, I would study a little and then kiss her goodnight before I sleep.

She always looked peaceful when she sleeps, like she don't and won't have any problems.

Lara looked like that now. I reached out my hands and took away the hair covering her face. My eyes went down to her lips.

Not those lips again.

I used the pillow in my hands to violently cover her face. I headed to my room but I remembered I haven't checked on Helen.

I walked over to her room and I opened the door. I peeped. She was on her bed, eyes wide open, playing with her teddy bear.

I walked inside.
"Why are you still awake Helen?"

She looked over to my direction and Immediately turned her back, facing the other direction pretending to be asleep.

I knew she was angry. I sat beside her on her bed and I shook her gently. She used her shoulder to shake my hand off her.

"Get off me"

"I know you are angry with me but if I don't know the reason, then I won't be able to apologize"

She turned with her teddy bear still clutched tightly around her little arms.

"You didn't come to check on me, you left me all by myself here"

I smiled.
"I'm sorry princess, I was a little busy"

She sat up with a stony look. I helped her by putting a pillow behind her so that she can sit with no difficulty.
"I saw you with dad and some girls at the beach, so don't lie because I saw you through my window"

"I didn't want to disturb you because Uncle said you were asleep"

She kept her stony look.
"You were cheating on me the whole time"

I laughed.
"No Helen, they're just my colleagues at work"

Her face softened and her little lips curved upwards a little.
"Seriously? Then I forgive you then"

I hugged her.
"Thanks, tomorrow I will take you for a ride on the boat, I promise"

"Really, then I better sleep early then"

I removed the pillow from her back and she straightened on her bed. I placed the pillow behind her head.

"Sleep tight princess"
I stood up from the bed and I spread her blanket around her body. I then kissed her head and I switched off her bedside lamp.

I then headed for the door but her tiny voice stopped me.
"George"

"Huh"

"I'm sorry I got mad at you"

I smiled.
"I know, now sleep"

I exited her room.

George's pov

A very loud knock on my bedroom door woke me up from my sleep.

I strolled to the door in only my sleeping shorts.
"Yes I'm coming"

I opened the door to find Jay at the door.

"You gotta see this George"

"What"

"Come down immediately"
He turned and immediately went back downstairs to the living room.

I just grabbed any shirt I could find and I went downstairs.

When I got to the living, everybody was already gathered in front of the television except for Sam who was probably still sleeping.

"What is it"

I looked at the screen and it read.

"THE MAYOR ELECT OF TEXAS COMMITS SUICIDE"

"It can't be possible he commited suicide"
Lara voice sounded.

"Yes you are right, I mean he was to become the mayor...who the hell kills himself after been elected as a Mayor"
I added still surprised about the news.

"Anyway George pack your things and leave now...you have been assigned to the case"
Jay said finally after minutes of silence.

He motioned to Lara.
"You should follow him too"

I turned to her.
"Be ready in 10"

No one's pov

George and Lara got to the office of Dr. Lawrence Winks the Mayor elect which was now shut down because it was the scene the news claimed he committed the suicide.

When we entered the office, the body had been transfered already. The office was intact, clean and tidy.

"So what are we looking for here?"
Lara asked me putting on her gloves.

I put on my gloves too.
"Something to proof that this isn't a suicide"

Unknown pov

"Boss"
His voice sounded out after he called my phone.

"Done?"
I used my already known authoritative voice.

"Done....I cleared everything that would lead them back to us"

"Good....then what about our shipment tonight? Found any buyers?"

"Yes sir....we are meeting our buyers to finalize our deal."

"Okay....no failures"

I severed the phone. I laughed loud as I sitted behind my desk.

"That what you get for going back on our deal....enjoy your trip to hell"

I brought the tobacco I was holding to my mouth.
