I got a letter from Dad.
It read,
Dear Sam
How are you? Where are you? I had your mother give this to you.
I am currently living in Armina. In a one bedroom apartment. How is your sister? I hope you are living in a good place. While I am writing this I am on my lunch break. I love you Honey.
Sincerely Dad.
I showed it to Tyler while she was packing.
"Why is he living in Armina?" I asked
Tyler looked down at me. "He is living in Armina because it's the only place he can afford."
Armina is a really run down town with many criminals.
Maybe Dad is a criminal.
I don't want to believe that.
I really don't.
James walked in the door looking flustered.
He gave me a hug and then waved Tyler into the bedroom.
I sat there being anxious about what James had to say to Tyler.
I had a feeling they weren't going to tell me.
I couldn't just sit there waiting.
I stuck a note on the fridge and went to the pool.
Most of the time no one was at the pool. But today was different.
A girl about my age and her Dad.
I walked over to the normal spot I sat.
Her Dad watched her jump into the pool of the diving board and he clapped.
That made me remember how much I missed him. His hugs. The swing set he made me when I was little.
Everything.
I let a tear roll down my face.
The girl just have noticed because he walked over to me.
"Hey." She said
"Hey ." I said staring straight ahead.
" I don't mean to be nosey but, why are you crying? " She asked
"I miss my Dad." I said
" Business trip? "
"No, him and by mom got in a divorce and so I'm here living with my sister.
" Oh, I'm sorry. "
I could tell she was genuinely sorry.
I half smiled at her.
"Is there anything I can do to help?" She asked
I shook my head.
"Ok then. Wait! I just had an idea."
I was interested
"Want to come to my apartment tomorrow?"
I nodded. I could tell I was about to make a friend.
After swimming for a little bit I walked back up to the apartment.
I opened the door to the apartment and wished I hadn't.
James looked really beat up. Like a 100 horses had stepped on his face.
Tyler was sitting with him silently crying.
She hadn't noticed me.
"What happened?" I said loudly. Not quite yelling.
Tyler stood up. She walked over
I took a deep breath in.
"James got in an argument on his lunch break. I guess the other guy got really mad so he came here."
There was something she wasn't telling me. She had a hard time keeping secrets from me.
I nodded.
"James has to go to the hospital, I don't feel comfortable leaving you here alone after what just happened. Do you have any friends from school?"
I shook my head. Just then I had an idea.
"Well, there was a girl I met at the pool. We had planned to hang out tomorrow. I bet I can ask her if I can come over a night early. Maybe she is still at the pool."
"Good thinking. Get a bag ready then go down to the pool." Tyler said
"Ok." I said
I started to run to my room.
"Sam?" Tyler said
"Ya?"
" I love you . " She said
