Rich's POV

lmao this story is so bad please leave

Rich drew in a deep breath of air before gingerly pushing open the metal doors to MiddleBorough.

It seemed time had slowed when he stepped in. Some glared, others murmured things along the lines of 'arsonist' or 'freak.' A group of jocks to his left had started chanting 'fire bitch' as he walked by. He gave finger guns in response.

A few others gave him what seemed to be sympathetic looks, but he saw past them. Pity. Unfiltered, unadulterated, pity. He gripped the straps of his backpack tighter.

He was back to square one. He had no idea how to act, what to do, or what was socially acceptable. He had no Kermit in his head to tell him how to respond when someone approached him. And he couldn't be happier.

He stopped at his locker, putting in the combination before swinging it open and carelessly pulling out a few textbooks. He closed his locker and let out a surprised noise when he was met with Jake, mere inches away from his face.

"Hey Rich!" He smiled widely. God that smile. Rich had learned to love that dimpled, perfect grin. I mean, everyone did. Everyone has liked Jake and/or still likes him. Rich of course being one of them.

He looked at the boy confusedly. "Why are you talking to me." Rich suddenly panicked, not meaning to come off that harsh. Jake took note of the boys mistake and waved his hand in a dismissive manner.

"It's good man, I just wanted to see how you're holding up." Rich looked at him in utter disbelief. "I broke your legth and your athking me how I am?" Jake smiled after hearing the boys lisp, and dismissed the question with his own statement.

"Well I'm not the only one who's changed." He smirked, grazing a burn mark on the top of Rich's shoulder with his index finger. The shorter boy blushed at the contact and playfully swatted the hand away. "..You don't mean that in like, a bad way though.. right?"

Jake rolled his eyes, still grinning. "Of course not. You look adorable." He poked Rich's cheek before stalking off to his first period.

Rich froze in place, a lovestruck smile on his face.

Michael walked over and casually slung his arm around the boys shoulder.

"Welcome to the PiningAfterYourBestFriendClub ™️ my friend."
