Rich had barely left his house for the past 2 weeks. He slept for about 3 hours a day, having always woken up at recollections of what he had dubbed the 'incident.'

For the first few days he would always call Jake, but soon stopped in fear he was waking him up in the middle of the night:

Jakes POV (Mostly)

This led to Jake frantically pacing around in his room at 12:00am, stressing about why the boy hadn't called him. So when he heard the party Jenna Rolan was throwing, he immediately called Rich to get him out of the house.

After 3 rings there was an answer.

"Rich?"

He heard a 'hm?' from the other line.

"Are you going to Jenna's tonight?"

"Nope." He popped the 'P' loudly.

He frowned, "it'll only be you, me, Jenna, Chloe, Brooke, Chris, Michael, J-"

"Fine, fine, fine."

Jake sighed in relief.

"Pick you up at 8?"

"Mhm."

He heard a loud ding, and the call was ended. He put the phone down and cupped his face in his hands, allowing a few tears to fall from his eyes.

He lifted his head, staring at a picture on his dresser. In the center were him and Rich in the summer of sophomore year, both smiling widely and wiping frosting on each other's faces.

The ends were partially burned, seeing as it was one of the few items Jake could save. The others were letters from his parents, but he had long thrown those out by now.

He popped the cap off of a sharpie, doodling a quick smiley face near Rich's face and making a promise to himself.

He was going to help him.

Not my best work and literally just short filler.

PS I changed the title of this book, it used to be After The Fire
