Layla's point of view:

I just stare at him. I thought he might be angry. But he looked sad and confused. I looked down at the floor, worried that he might tell somebody. Still looking at the floor, I glanced over at him to see him staring at the T.V. and he looked shocked.

Today, 17 year old, Layla Pheonix  was killed in a car accident. Authorities are still checking the street cameras to find the person who hit them.

I look over at Luke who looks looks a little bit sad but confused. We just sat there in silence.  I finally broke the silence. "I have some explaining to do."

"Yeah, but we-" he started to say but then we heard the front door open. I sat there, not knowing what to do. I tried to run to the side of the bed, but fell remembering my injuries. I hear footsteps coming up the stairs and get even more scared. I try scooting towards the side of the bed, but then a girl shows up in the doorway.

"Hey bro I'm home from my friends house I-" her eyes land straight to me. She look confused at first, but then she got this sly look on her face. "So, Luke, care to introduce me to your new girlfriend?" I just start blushing madly, I could tell Luke was too without having to look at his face.

"She isn't my girlfriend, Emily! Her name is Layla and she just needed a place to stay." He sounded flustered by the tone in his voice. Then I notice the T.V. is still on so I try to stand up and reach for the remote but fall to the floor. I feel Luke catch me before I fall. "Are you ok?" We stare into each others eyes. Then I start blushing realizing he still holding onto me.

"Are you alright?" Emily shouted from behind Luke then she got another sly look on her face. "Or were you just falling for him?" I could feel heat rising up my cheeks. I saw Emily run out of the room. Luke helped me sit on the bed then ran after her.

"GET BACK HERE!" Luke yelled loudly. I'm guessing he finally got her based on her loud squealing. Luke came into the room with Emily over his shoulder. He eventually set her down on the ground. I started giggling because she started pouting and crossed her arms. "So Emily, i need your help with something. Have you watched the news lately?"

"Yeah, how come? All that was on the news was something about this girl with the name of Layla or something who died in a car accident i-" she got this shocked look on her face. She looked at me with this expression that i couldn't read. "Are you-" I was nervous to tell her the truth. I was just going to tell her. I was about to answer her but Luke answered before me.

"Yes, it's her but i need you to help me keep her hidden and also with her wounds." He bent down and reached for the bottom of my leggings. I nodded, letting him roll up my leggings, showing the stitches on my legs. "Is there any other wounds that you have. I nodded. "Can you show me, please." I blushed a bit then pointed to the left side of my chest."O-oh, um Emily can you-"

"Already on it." she said pushing him out of the room and closing the door. As soon as she closed the door, I pulled the sweater over my head. All I had on under the sweater was a bandage around my chest with a small blood stain on it witch showed where it was. "Okay, I would be able to help keep the wounds clean, but i would have to go shopping. We should probably dye your hair, but all we have is black. Will that be okay with you?"

"Yeah, that would be fine" I said, pulling the sweater over my head to cover my chest. She nodded her head and went out the door, closing it behind her. I sat there for a bit, then i carefully got off the bed and crawled over to one of my suitcases that Luke brought in earlier. I opened it and looked through it. I finally found what i was looking for, a picture of me, my mom, and my dad. I held it close to my chest, remembering all the fun times we've had.

"Daddy, can you come push me on the swings?" I was trying to swing my legs back and forth, now going very far.

"Sure thing, princess." he ran behind me and started pushing me. Then his phone started to ring. He slowed me down then answered his phone. When i looked at him he seemed a little frustrated. He hung up the phone and he picked me up and brought me to the car. "Mommy called and said its almost dinner time."

a week later

I was playing in my room and heard the front door open. I open my bedroom and saw who was at the door. It was it was a really tall man. He was talking to mommy quietly, so i couldn't hear what he was saying. Then he backed up and mommy started crying on the floor. I quickly ran over to her and hugged her tightly "Mommy whats wrong?" I hugged her tightly then looked at the man. He got down on his knee so he was level with me.

"The reason your mommy is so sad is because...your father, he got hit by a car earlier, but he didn't make it." he looked at me with sadness in his eyes.

"What do you mean by he didn't make it?"

"It means...your father...he is dead." I wasn't sure what to think. I started crying holding my mommy tighter.

End of flashback

I wish i could tell my mom that i'm still alive. My dad is probably looking down at me from heaven. I started to cry a little bit, holding the frame close to me. I heard the door click open and saw Emily standing there with Luke standing behind her with some more of my bags in his hands. I stare at them with tears still in my eyes. Emily rushes over and gives me a hug. I just start crying even more. " I wish I could just tell them, tell my mom that I'm okay, she lost everything. First my dad, then me." I said in between sobs.

"Hey, it'll be okay. I know you want to tell her, but if someone finds out, they'll probably do something bad." Emily said quietly. "Hey, how about I find the hair dye so we can dye your hair, then you can go to the store with me? Does that sound good?"

"Yeah, that sounds fine."

"But it's getting a little late so we should go in the morning."

"Alright." Emily walked out the door and shut the lights off. I lied down and instantly fell asleep.
