Midoriya Izuku was never someone who enjoyed being sentimental. He relished in being happy and optimistic, almost as if he owned a badge that showed a constant smile. He would always show that amazing grin, and it brightened anyone's day, no matter how sad they happened to be. He took pride in this, knowing that his attitude was affecting everyone around him -- in a positive way, of course.
But one person always left him bewildered.
[Y/N] [L/N] was someone who always stood at the top with such a marvelous power, but unfortunately, he had never seen them smile. All Might had always told him that someone who is wishing to become a hero should always smile in the face of danger, but when they were in turmoil they'd only give a small frown. Midoriya didn't like seeing someone in such a miserable state, and what was more unfortunate is that no one else seemed to want to take extra precautions when seeing them like this. It was common sense to at least ask if they were alright, but many seemed to stray away from that topic in order to make the conversation less awkward. They'd partake in small talk, but that was about it.
The green haired boy had never even said a word to said person, and that fact made him feel even worse. He was one of the people in the class who worried for everyone, no matter what mood they were in. And his mood would mostly improve their's, unless it was Bakugou. But [Y/N] seemed faint to his attempts. He'd give them small smiles, waves, nods or small gestures telling them to join him for lunch or even just speak. Alas, they'd always refuse or just give a small notion in return, turning away to focus on what ever they were doing.
To be honest, it made Midoriya feel like absolute crap. He desperately wanted to figure out why they seemed so solemn all the time. Maybe he had to do the same thing that he did with Todoroki, though [Y/N] did not seem like the type to respond to pressure in the way that the half-n-half male did. Instead of pushing it, he decided to confide in his friends for help.
"Have you ever spoken to them, Iida?" Midoriya queried, looking at the taller male with slight concern. He had already expected the answer he didn't want to hear.
"Ah, not much. As class president, I try to check in with each student as much as I can! But [Y/N] seems to be very quiet when it comes to questioning," Iida vacillated.
Midoriya sighed, thanking him quietly while walking in the opposite direction to find his other friend, Ochako.
"Have you talked to [Y/N]?" Midoriya asked once more, a hopeful look in his emerald eyes.
Ochako seemed to pause for a moment, almost saddened that that she didn't have the answer that he'd most likely be looking for. "I haven't, sorry Midoriya!" Ochako apologized, bowing in sympathy.
