Athena woke up with a gasping breath, sitting up and clutching her chest for air. She coughed for a little bit then got her airstream back to normal. Theodora looked up from her book and smiled.
"Thank goodness you're awake!" She exclaimed, getting up and going over to her. "I was beginning to worry about you." She hugged her friend.
"No no. I'm fine." Athena told her. "Just uh, what exactly happened?" She gazed around the room. Infirmitory. Theo rolled her eyes.
"Training with Naz again." She muttered, annoyance seeping into her tone. "I don't know why you hang out with that guy anyways. He seems like a real-"
"Dick?" Athena asked cutting her off. Theo nodded.
"Yes." She confirmed, "And watch your language." Athena chuckled and layed back down.
"How long have I been out?" She asked inquisitively.
"Five to six hours," Theo told her. "Give or take." Athena nodded. She slowly stood up. Then she summoned her wings and stretched them out.
"Where's Naz now?" She asked, carefully bending her wings. "I have to go apologize." Theo stood up and grabbed her arm.
"Oh no you don't." She said sternly. "What would you ever have to apologize for anyways?" She asked, questioning her friend.
"For being weak." Athena explained. "If I wasn't weak I could've taken Naz on. But I wasn't strong enough so he beat me."
"How in the world is that your fault? He should learn not to work you so hard." Theo protested. The white walls of the infermy seemed to capture them both as they stared at each other, silence filling the air.
"Maybe if you had killed your entire family in cold blood, you would feel the need to get stronger to." Athena told her, her eyes becoming cold and pained. "To ward off the thing inside you that made you do it." With that she tore away from Theo's grasp and left the room.
Theo sat down to think. Tom ran up to Athena when she came out, walking beside her as she went. For a few minutes they walked in silence, Tom trying to come up with the best way to start a conversation.
"So, uh, I saw your fight with Naz." He began, "You okay? It looked pretty intense." Athena shrugged. "Does he bully you? Because if he does then-" She cut him off with a spurt of laughter.
"No no no. He doesn't bully me. He's my trainer." She clarified for him. "He teaches me how to get stronger. And yeah, it can get intense at times, but I don't mind it. I can heal myself." Tom nodded thoughtfully. "Plus," she continued, "he's the only person who's ever said that they love me." Tom stared at her, wide eyed.
"He what?" He asked in disbelief. She grinned and slipped inside the room they had arrived at, the door sealing shut behind her.
