You and the gang followed Bigweld out to his limo that was parked outside. Everyone piled in one by one and rushed to find a seats while Bigweld made his way to the driver's seat. Aunt Fanny was the second to last one to board with you following right behind her.
Bigweld, unaware that not everyone was seated yet, pushed the pedal to the metal as the car rocketed away from the curb. Aunt Fanny gasped as she stumbled, accidentally knocking into you with her rear. You landed roughly and skidded across the floor of the car, your back slamming into something rather hard.
You winced with a sharp breath as you felt a huge pain in your entire back. This pain also helped influence a vicious strike of your hunger pang. A moderately suppressed groan of intense agony escaped your lips.
"Oh my god, are you okay?" You heard Rodney's worried voice gasp. Looking up, your eyes met his stunning blue ones. You then realized that the rough surface you had slammed into was his metal legs. He bent over in his seat and picked you up bridal style, setting you on the seat cushion beside him.
He wrapped an arm protectively around your waist, pulling you flush against his side. "You might wanna hang on." He smiled at you crookedly. "This is probably gonna be a wild ride."
"Yeah, I can see that." You rolled your eyes with a smirk. "Way to point out the obvious."
The car ride was starting to make you nauseous, which you found strange considering your stomach was completely empty just as it had been the last week or so. Bigweld obviously hadn't gotten out much, if at all, in a long while. The car viciously swerved and spun as it rocketed down the streets. You could hear the cars honking from countless angry drivers at almost every turn.
"Rodney?" You whispered to him after a long silence.
He hummed questioningly in response as he turned his head to look at you.
"What were you about to tell me at the train station?" You asked. That thought hadn't left your mind for a single second since it happened. Yes, knowing the answer would set you up for disappointment no matter what, but you desperately wanted to know. If he returned your feelings, they would fall on deaf ears as you knew that kind of relationship wouldn't work out. If it turned out he didn't reciprocate the feelings at all, your heart would be broken. Nevertheless, you needed to know.
"Um....nothing." He replied. You noticed his awkward tone and shifting eyes.
"You sure?" You tilted your head, slightly cocking a brow curiously.
"Yeah." He smiled warmly. His voice still wasn't very assuring, but you chose not to press further. He respected your request at the phone booth, so it was only right you did the same. After a second silence, he spoke, "It looks like you'll be going home soon."
You couldn't help but frown when he said that. Yes, you were dying and very homesick, but you also didn't want to leave this place. You had amazing, quirky friends here that could almost never compare to any standard human friendship. You didn't want to just leave them behind, especially after all they had done for you. "Yeah, I guess so."
"Aren't you excited?" Rodney smiled, but you knew it was forced when you saw it. "You get to go back with other humans. You can be with your real friends."
Your eyes narrowed as you lightly glared at him, sternly saying, "Don't say that. You know very well that you and the others are just as real as any human friends I could have."
Rodney looked shocked for a split second at your claim, but quickly smiled brightly with a chuckle. "Well I'm glad you feel that way." Your glare diminished and was replaced with a silly smile at his comment.
