Chapter 5

Special thanks to TheWriterNamedLily  who encourages me to write and actually made the new cover of this book. She's an awesome person.

Percy's POV

I mentally smacked myself for forgetting about him. Like a hunter of Artemis, I closed the door without making a sound. I started tiptoeing towards my tiny room also known as Gabe's 'study,' all the while imagining the tiptoeing sound effects from the Looney Toons that the cat always makes.

Either too drunk or too stupid, Gabe didn't notice. Although I suspected the lateral, but the first idea probably played a part too.

After climbing the stairs and resisting the temptation to run, I finally made it to the door where I slipped inside. I stared at room trying not to drown in memories. I smiled when I realized that Gabe hadn't yet taken over my room.

I sat on the small twin sized bed that was tucked neatly into the corner. The window to the fire escape was unevenly swashed in the middle of the wall. The view was fantastic because I just loved waking up in the morning to see a blank brick wall.

A sigh escaped my lips as I flopped back to lie on my bed like a dead man. A new question circled my head, 'Why me.'

I knew I couldn't wast this opportunity, I had to fix things. I was given the chance to start over and wasn't going to waste it.

I had to make a plan and some rules for myself. I couldn't just go telling anyone I knew the future. I also needed to keep things from spiraling out of control. I needed to pretend I didn't know a thing I already knew. Most importantly, I was only going to tell people whose fates I had changed forever.

"Percy?"

Glancing up at the woman who had just entered the room I thought, 'I'll have one exception to my rule, I need her support.'

I gave my mom a smile but didn't attempt to mask the worry that danced in my eyes and marred my face. She closed the door politely and quickly sat on the bed with me. Taking her hands, she cupped them around my cheeks forcing me to look up at her.

"Do you want to talk about it?" She asked gently. There was no waver or doubt in her tone, she knew something was up.

I faltered, how was I supposed to tell her. I decided to wing it. Looking her straight in the eyes, I said, "Mom, something's happened."

And then I told her, well sort of. I told her that the fates sent me back in time for a second chance but I didn't tell her anything if what was yet to come. I somehow just knew that it was better to let the future I knew of be mine only to keep.

She enveloped into a hug and mumbled into my ear, "My sweet child, I'm not going to ask what happened but I can tell it an unspeakable tragedy." She pulled away and looked me straight in the eyes, "Don't worry, I believe you."

She pulled a bag of candies, all blue of course and looked at them, thought disfocusing her eyes. A small teasing smile spread across her face until it was a full-blown grin. "I was going to ask if you wanted some candy," she said stroking the bag protectively, "But I just don't know if you like candy anymore!"

As if struck, I put my hand on my chest and gasped dramatically, "What makes you think that?!"

She sighed and mockingly put the back of her hand to her forehead as if in distress, "I cannot tell you, you are too young to know!"

"Excuse me? Too youn..."

"Sally!!!" A voice I knew too well hollered. I glared at the door from where the sound traveled came from. My mother sighed, "I'm guessing your guy's relationship hasn't improved."

"Actually, I'm quite happy with our relationship. He can't bother me anymore." I was going for a straight face but completely failed. I actually started laughing so hard I fell off the bed. I could feel my mom's glare, pushing myself up, I innocently said, "What?"

She shook her head, "I'm glad you're still the little boy I know."

I slightly frowned at that but kept quiet all the same. My mother, as she was reaching for the door, I blurted out, "Can we get rid of him?"

She spun around, "Percy, I can't.."

"Mom please," I pleaded, "I can protect myself." I reached into my pocket and breathed in a sigh of relief when I pulled out a pen. I guess Riptide really likes me.

My mother looked at the Anaklusmos. A flood of confusion overtook her face.

"Um... Don't have a heart attack please..." I uncapped Riptide. Anaklusmos blade sprung out like normal, but she felt lighter. I guess she'll always fit the user, good thing too. I put the cap back on and stuffed the pen back in my pocket.

My mother stared in awe.

"Soooo... Can we get rid of him?" I asked hopefully.

"Only you would have a magic pen and brush it off like it was nothing." My mother muttered to herself. She stared at me doubtfully. "Are you sure?"

"Positive."

She looked unconvinced but finally, after what looked like a mental debate, sighed in agreement.

The door opened, "Bean dip, Sally." The man growled. My expression morphed into a murderous one that a 6-year-old shouldn't be capable of.

Surprisingly my mom said, "Sure, I'll make the bean dip!"

"Good," the monster growled, "You better hurry woman." Then Gabe left and went downstairs.

I was confused, that was until my mother said, "just not for you." She straightened, standing tall and independently, "I want a divorce."

.........................

Gave did not take it well. In fact, he tried to attack us. After calling, the police arrived right in time. From the way it looked, it was an attempted murder and he was charged a lifelong sentence in prison. My mother joyously became single and things went back to normal.

Haha, yeah right. When are things ever normal for a demigod?

.........................

Mom said I could get ice cream from down the street. Handing me enough money for 4 cones, more than enough.

I started towards the parlor and bought myself some weird ice cream called Blue Moon. I honestly didn't care what it tasted like, just that it was blue.

And then I crashed into them, literally.  I glared at the ground and my ice cream cone. Sighing I looked up to see a hand. Taking it a pulling myself up I heard the person speak.

"We keep crashing into each other don't we?" She snorted. "What's your name?"

I stared into the eyes of my concerned cousin for the second time that week.
