Percy's POV
"What am I going to do today?" I mumbled to myself eating Doritos on the couch staring at a blank wall. I crunched loudly on another chip just for the heck of it. 'What a lazy bum I am.' I sighed, I was bored. Some people don't understand boredom can be fatal.
My eyes slid over to the bookshelf from which I had tried to cure my boredom with. I had grabbed a random book a week ago the day after Thalia and Luke left for gods who knows where, not New York that's for sure. The book was interesting. I got to get some credit for actually reading it, Annabeth would be so proud. I'm surprised that I was sad when I finished it seeing we don't have the next book. Oh well, I guess my boredom is getting to me.
I left the apartment and decided to take a random detour. My mom was at work and I was mentally old enough to take care of myself, there were much more things people would focus on than a 6 year old all alone. I walked aimlessly and immersed myself in my thoughts, most of them circling around Leo Valdez.
I honestly didn't have a plan. All I knew is Leo lived somewhere in Houston, Texas with his mom. He never said where sooo... now I had to find out where he lived which made me feel like a stalker or something. I also knew the warehouse caught fire when he was 8 and he was a year younger than me, making him 5. I had about 3 years but it most likely was less than that.
I groaned in frustration and found myself standing in front of the Hudson River bringing back memories. The most prominent being buying myself some new friends and jumping off Olympus into it. I glazed at the brown frothy scattered with plastic bags and littered with glass bottles, pretty much anything you could think of. Heck, I even saw a wallet flouting lazily with current that I may or may not of been tempted to grab.
Glancing at the ground, I kicked away so trash and sat by the river willing myself to stay dry and not get all muddy. Smirking at the water with an idea glowing in my eyes, I held out my hand and willed the water to move. It didn't.
I sighed but it was to be expected. The only times I had really used my power over water was in desperate situations, it was more of my last card than an actual weapon. And when I did use my powers, it was over larger quantities of water. Poseidon was mainly the god of the sea so larger amounts were easier as long as it wasn't a ridiculous amount of water.
I put more effort into the project at hand. If I had a better control over my powers, I could probably save way more people. I was going to train harder than before so this time, my friends won't have to pay for my mistakes with their lifes.
The frustration and anger must have played a part in my attempt because a sphere of water a little smaller than my head rose from the river. I stared at it in awe. It was honestly really cool and made me curious what I could be capable of if I set my mind to it.
It took much more effort than I would have liked. Beads of sweat formed on my face, I ignored it. Tentatively I reach a hand out and touched the gravity defying water. The water immediately trickled down my arm at the exact moment of contact until my arm was outstretched towards air. I was laughing because the water had tickled my arm.
I made many more attempts to connect with the water until I was exhausted andante completely drained of energy. Despite how tired I felt, I grinned. I figured if I pushed myself every single day, I would get better.
And I did. At first, with every spare moment of time, I concentrated on any body of water in sight and tried to move it. My mom started to get annoyed seeing me constantly drained of energy but as I started to push past my limits, I created new ones that opened new possibilities.
When my 7th birthday came around, I was able to easily control water at will. Any water, anywhere. The sad thing was, there wasn't always just a body of water sitting there waiting to be used. I definitely was not going to put my friend's lifes in jeopardy because of that. My mom now has to deal with power drained me again and boy is she thrilled.
Calling upon the water vapor in the air is much harder than it seems, which is why I was on the verge of collapse the first couple times I tried it without even a drop of liquified water. To say I was excited when I managed to change the form of water from air to liquid, was a huge understatement. Too bad I passed out afterwards, I never got to celebrate.
The end of August drew near quickly as I invested my time and effort into training. My mother could tell how much it meant to me. We had already spoken about it, and as much as I wanted to keep the future I knew a secret, I had never been able to completely keep something away from her.
Leaning back into the couch, I smiled remembering the spark of pride glowing in my mother's eyes. I could tell she knew I had seen more than one of my friends passing and blamed it on myself. My mom is just smart and awesome like that.
I jumped up as I heard the slam of a door echo in the hallway. The crinkling of bags told me my mother had gone shopping. 'Maybe she got some ingredients for blue cookies,' I mused hopefully. I jumped up and ran over to her grabbing some of the bags for her. "Thanks Percy, put them on the counter for me."
I did what she told me and set them on the kitchen counter. Pulling at the plastic, I took a peek inside. I recoiled in shock and stared at my smirking mother with betrayal pulling a pout on my face. "But mom!" I whined.
My mother gave me a look that told me 'no buts' and tried to make her face serious and stern, "There are no arguments on this one, you have no choice."
"I trusted you Mom!" I wailed in fake betrayal.
.........................
"Perseus Jackson."
"It's Percy." I told the 1st grade teacher in dismay, still dumbfounded at the fact my mom sent me here.
School. What fun?!
Whoops for not updating *Checks watch* for a month... *Dodges flying objects*
As we can see, Percy is training his powers. I don't want it to be too easy cause over powered Percy can be annoying sometimes.
