''You said you understood his side on the bus.''
''That was before I saw how much he acts like he's entitled to you(...)''

Rita liked to watch people when they weren't looking. Admire the way they acted, the way they softened their expressions and were free to be themselves because no one was there to see and judge. She could catch that on everyone - But not Peter, he acted like himself always. He didn't need to put up a show. Peter was so confident and sure of himself that it was endearing more than it was annoying.
She carefully wet the towel in warm water and brought it up to his slit open lip. He flinched.
''Don't be a baby Peter Kavinsky.'' She didn't want to smile but something inside her intervened and one indeed escaped her lips although she rolled her eyes to compensate her weakness.
''It fucking stings'' He babied out. He kept trying to get away.
Rita felt so guilty she felt sick. One Peter had a cracked lip and two he also had a swollen eye and all because of her. And for that she was standing there, caring for Peter's wounds while being painfully reminded what her relationship had turned into.
''It's almost done.'' She whispers. She's too close to his face to speak at normal volume - It would sound too intrusive. He was backing away so she pulled him closer by the back of his neck. Her nails dig on his skin although he didn't complain. He was looking down at her the whole time but Rita's attention was more on the muscle that kept twitching on his chin than anything else.
''You are so pretty up close.'' He whispered back.
If Rita could explain why her heart started racing once Peter spoke she couldn't, or maybe she didn't want to. She still had a boyfriend, and for what is worth she would keep acting like it.
''So I don't look pretty up far?'' She dropped the towel, her arms crossed together, eyes squinted at Peter who had a smirk so wide in his face her heart skipped a beat, maybe too. His smile was his best feature and there's no wrong in stating that. It's a fact. Facts. Like the sky is blue. Facts.
''You're always beautiful. You know that you are.'' She smiled but hid it behind her arm as she took the towel to clean the rest of the blood that had dried out.
She always liked the sharp and straight line of his jaw too or the curve of his cheekbone. All in all Peter's features gave his kindness away to everyone and it's that kindness that still touches Rita's heart the most.
