Bird and Bunny: Falling For You

It was four o'clock at Beacon Academy meaning the students were finished with their classes for the day. All around the school the huntsmen and huntresses in training were exiting the various classrooms, glad another school day was behind them.

One of these groups of young huntsmen was an all boy team called team CRDL.

Three of the members Russel Thrush, Dove Bronzewing, and Sky Lark were discussing how to prepare for their practice fight against team RWBY in combat class. The fourth member Cardin Winchester was standing behind the other three young men and he appeared to be in deep thought.

"Hey man what are you thinking about?" Russel questioned his partner.

"It's nothing," Cardin said but he wouldn't look up from the floor.

Russel shrugged and went back to talking with his teammates.

Cardin sighed in relief and ran a hand through his hair. He had been lying when he said he wasn't thinking about anything. He had been thinking a lot about something, or rather someone. Ever since Jaune Arc had saved his life in Forever Fall Forest Cardin had begun to realize that maybe he was a little harsh to some of his classmates. The one target of his bullying that he thought the most about though was a second year bunny Faunus named Velvet Scarlatina.

When they had first met Cardin teased her about her rabbit ears and mocked her whenever he could. But now as he watched her more in the halls and classrooms the bully had found that Velvet was a lot different then he had originally thought.

Sure she was shy and timid just like when they first met. However the rabbit girl was also very smart. Also, even though he hated to admit it, Cardin was beginning to find her bunny ears adorable. He wanted to get to know her better and he figured that the best way to do that would be on a date. Little did he know though he was about to get his chance to ask her out.

"Hey Cardin there's that bunny girl," Sky spoke up.

Cardin turned and saw Velvet and her teammates from team CFVY walk by.

"I have some leftover raisins from lunch in my bag," Russel said, "should I drop them behind her? You know because they look like pellets?"

"No! I mean umm we always pick on Velvet. Why don't you three go find someone else for us to pick on. In fact go find Jaune."

The threesome shrugged but they went off to do their leader's bidding.

Cardin sighed in relief, "that was close. Now to talk to Velvet."

Unfortunately he had spent so long talking to his team that team CFVY had walked away.

The bully groaned audibly, "alright time for plan B."

He began to walk around the school until he finally spotted the team of second years studying in the library. However he quickly realized that just going up and talking to Velvet wasn't going to work. For starters her teammates knew that she had been bullied and if the person who had been tormenting her approached them...well Cardin didn't want to be on the receiving end of shots from Coco's minigun or a strike from Yatsuhashi's great sword.

Instead he waited for the Faunus girl to leave the table before attempting to approach her. She was trying to grab a book from a high shelf but she was having trouble. So Cardin, since he was so tall, reached up and got the book for her.

"Oh thank you," Velvet said sweetly, but when she saw who had helped her she paled, "What are you doing here?"

"I had a question for you," Cardin said awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck.

Velvet scowled, "Yes."

"Yes what?"

"Yes as I've told you multiple times my rabbit ears are real."

"No it's not that," Cardin was feeling really embarrassed now. This was not going well. Sighing he decided to try again, "look I'm sorry for bullying you. That was wrong, I should've gotten to know you first before judging you. But if you're willing to give me another chance I would love to-"

"Velvet!" Came the voice of team CFVY's leader Coco Adel, "come on we're heading back to the dorms."

Coco put her arm around her teammate and led her away all while shooting a glare at Cardin.

Cardin rolled his eyes, "Alright plan C. I really hope I don't have to go through all twenty five letters of the alphabet. Wait-oh never mind."

He made his way to team CFVY's dorm and knocked on the door. Yatsuhashi answered seconds later. When he saw the team CRDL leader he shut the door in his face.

"Come on I just need to talk to Velvet."

"Yatsu it's ok," Velvet's sweet accented voice could be heard from the other side of the door before she opened it again, "hello again Cardin."

"Hey. So listen like I told you earlier I'm sorry that I've been such a jerk to you. And if you were willing to give me another chance I was hoping that maybe we could go out together some time."

Velvet just stared at him and Cardin felt his face fall.

"I get it you don't want to. I'm sorry I bothered you."

He turned to leave but he heard the Faunus call back to him, "I'll meet you outside the school at seven o'clock." Before she shut the door to her dorm back.

As she went back into her room Velvet started trying to find something to wear on her date. When she turned her back Coco gave Fox a mischievous smirk and held her hand out to him. He in turn rolled his eyes and handed his leader some lien from his wallet.

"What was that about?" Yatsuhashi asked.

"Oh Fox and I have had a bet going," Coco said as her eyes gleamed from behind her sunglasses, "we were betting on how long that would take. We both knew he liked her."
