I sit up, stretch and rub my eyes.

"Morning," Alex says.

I'm in the living room, and he's still lying on the couch. The blanket is off, and he's watching TV.

"How are you feeling?" I ask, standing up.

"Still a little sore, but much better."

I bring him breakfast, then sit on the floor next to him while I eat mine.

"You know, I've been thinking," I begin, "You said those policemen only got you because they came from behind and you'd been drinking, right?"

"Yes," he drags out the word.

"Next time you go to the bar, you should take me with you. That way I can keep an eye out for anyone suspicious." Honestly, it's more about keeping an eye on him. I'd rather be there with him than sit at home worrying.

He furrows his brow, but he doesn't say no.

"I won't get in your way. I'll just be your eyes and ears."

"I suppose it couldn't hurt," he agrees.

Good.

It's evening, and I'm glad to see he's walking again. He has a slight limp, which is strange to see with someone as big and strong as him. I was worried something was broken, but he assured me he'd be better by tomorrow.

We get into bed, and he puts one arm around me. I'm careful not to press on him.

While I obviously don't want him hurt, I can't deny that it's nice that he was forced to stay home tonight.

"You can't go out so soon. You're still covered in bruises." I block the front door. As soon as it got dark, he was ready to go again. He got beat up just the day before yesterday!

"I'm going to a bar, not a wrestling match. Now are you coming or not?"

"I'm not going, and neither are you."

He puts his hands under my arms and lifts me up.

"What are you doing!? Put me down!" I kick my feet around in the air.

He places me behind him, giving him a clear path to the front door.

"Okay fine. Just give me a minute to get changed." I hurry to my room and put on long pants and a warm hoodie, then I lock my neck chain in place.

We begin our journey on foot. I guess it makes sense to avoid driving. We walk side against side with his arm around my shoulder and mine around his waist.

I can feel the taser on his belt. "Are you worried they'll come after you again?"

"No. They got their revenge. Plus, I'm going to a different bar this time."

That does ease my nerves a bit.

After around half an hour of walking, we reach 'The Duck'.

There's a large man standing by the door. He looks like he'd even beat Alex in a fight.

"The bouncer is going to search you. Don't make a scene," Alex whispers.

I have to force myself to keep still as the bouncer runs his hands against both of my legs, my sides and my arms. He lets me in and begins searching Alex. It's pretty loud in here. There are lots of parbeings, and they're acting rather wild.

I stand awkwardly by the entrance with my chain in hand, waiting for Alex. The bouncer takes Alex's taser off him, then lets him pass. I grab his hand as soon as he's inside.
