A New Face

With the stream of students flowing into the school, I walked slowly, having my eyes aimed at the ground as usual. This morning, I woke up feeling strangely...tired. More tired than I usually am in the mornings. I almost didn't get out of bed, but I knew I had to for school, otherwise Dad would've not been happy. Today might be a little rough, I can barely keep my eyes open in this moment.

I found my way to my locker, and followed my normal routine of getting my bag together for the day. A little ways down the hall, I saw Dash naturally doing the same, except he was chatting lively with his friends. The black-haired teen I've seen with him before laughing along with him about whatever, as did two guys and a redheaded girl I don't recognize.

The memory of what happened the day before returned to me, and I started feeling a little giddy. He did say we should talk more, right? So it wouldn't be weird if I just walked up to him and said "hi", right?

...Who am I kidding. I'm not going to do that, it's too embarrassing. Maybe if he was alone, I would...

I went back to what I was doing, and minutes later, I heard their conversation come to a close and Dash close his locker. He parted ways with two of the boys and walked with the black-haired guy and the girl, who had her arm linked with his. But, instead of going down the hall away from me like they regularly did, they were coming my way.

I sharply kept my eyes focused on the inside of my locker, not wanting to make it seem like I was staring at them, but my eyes drifted up on their own when the group got closer anyway.

I met Dash's gaze.

"Hey."

He gave me a charming smile as he passed, with his friends only sparing a glance my way and nothing more. I immediately felt my heart start to race, sending warmth flowing throughout my body.

"H-Hi." I mustered up a smile in return, though I'm sure it looked awkward, managing to see the friendly twinkle in the blonde's blue eyes before he turned back around and went on his way. As he left, I absentmindedly patted my chest, urging my heart to calm down.

"Good morning class. Before we get started today, I have a small announcement to make." Our history teacher stood at the front of the class, beaming away. I didn't look away from the doodling I was doing in my notebook, but I was listening.

"We have a new student. Please say hello to Camellia."

He gestured to the right side of the room, and curious, I looked that way with the rest of the class.

Sure enough, a girl with black hair and olive skin who didn't look at all familiar to me sat in a desk. She adjusted the collar of the turtleneck she was wearing before slowly waving with a half-hearted smile. I felt bad for her, Mr. Stevenson literally put her on the spot.

"She'll be with us for the rest of the year, so make her feel at home. Anyway, without further ado, let's get today's lesson going. I have a short video I'd like to show..."

I sighed quietly. I hope class goes by fast, history was never a subject I was that interested in.

Lunchtime was here, and I felt relieved. I get to satisfy the grumbling in my stomach, and after lunch, I only had two more classes before the day was over. Not much longer now.

I sat down at an empty table, beginning to eat. I took quick looks around the room, soon finding what I was searching for.

Was it honestly creepy, that I stared at him this much? I just, couldn't help it. It's not my fault he's literally the most gorgeous boy I've ever seen. Anyone with good taste would surely gawk at him daily too, I can't be the only one.
