A part of me wanted this day to happen sooner or later, but I wasn't prepared for it, and probably couldn't have prepared myself for it to begin with. It was like if someone always believed they'd meet a celebrity they loved one day, and when they actually got the chance to at a convention or something, their brain turned to mush.
That was me right now. I was sure I looked like a deer in headlights, as The Dash leaned against the brick wall opposite of me in the alley, his eyes almost appearing to shine in the dark. Immediately I could see he was a more stocky figure than I expected, but still very lean. Newspaper images and shots on TV didn't compare to seeing the real thing with my own eyes in the slightest.
Then again, how his skin-tight supersuit hugged him left not much for the mind to wonder regarding how his body was shaped...wait, what am I doing? Can my mind not wander there, please? I don't even know the guy.
His hair was swept back but disheveled with strands sticking out in places and curling over the fair skin of his forehead, no doubt caused by the sprints and turns he took at high speeds. It...only seemed to increase his charm though, to my horror.
His smirk widened, exposing more of his white teeth, which made me realize that I was probably staring at him for far too long.
"Did I scare you? My bad."
He chuckled, and I instinctively took a step away from him. Not out of fear, but in an unconscious attempt to try and escape the enigmatic grasp he had on me.
"Yeah...kind of." I huffed, silently coaxing myself to relax. I rolled my shoulders.
"Where'd you even come from?"
The Dash chuckled, slightly leaning forward. With the high of the adrenaline coursing through my veins mostly gone now, I could re-focus, and discovered that...weirdly enough, his laugh sounded familiar. Awfully familiar. His voice was too. I've heard him talk before every now and then on TV, so what was different now?
It was a little spooky.
"I was just in the neighborhood, trying to see if anything was happening, when...I spied with my little eye, you running along the street and into an alleyway. I got curious, and followed you." He smirked, and I kept myself from facepalming.
I don't know why it didn't occur to me to check if anyone was tailing me, but I just had to deal with it now.
"So, what do we got? Some kind of deal going down?" The teen looked to the warehouse in the distance, as men dressed in varying outfits were transporting containers out of the truck. Activity picked up while I was distracted, and they already about emptied the transport. The only things that remained were a few crates that pairs of workers carried by hand, and a few giant crates that they were using a forklift to move.
This looked like to be your typical job day at the warehouse, but something felt off. I had no idea what, and it was bugging me.
"I don't know. I saw that truck being escorted by those cars, and thought it was weird. Especially because, the truck belongs to a company I've never heard of."
"What's its name?" He asked.
"Perennial Pharmaceuticals." I responded, seeing the speedster's face turn thoughtful for a second, before he shrugged.
"I've heard of it. Think they deal with medicine."
Knowing he at least was familiar with it soothed my nerves, but not by much. I couldn't ignore the small geyser of dread that was building up in my gut, but...it could just be me feeling paranoid. You never know with these companies, they all could be up to something shady. Greed and power of status could do that to people.
