- Wanna Be Startin' Somethin', Michael JacksonI understand if Peter's nervous. But he was silent for most of the car ride. His eyes were wide as he glanced at Liz's dad. He would look from her dad then to me before looking out the window. Liz looked a bit bored with her date. The guy grabbed his phone and was mostly taking pictures of himself.
"So, guys, what are you gonna do?" Liz's dad, Adrian, asked.
"What?" Peter asked.
"When you guys graduate, what do you think you'll do?"
The guy scoffed as he lowered his phone. "Head to UCLA. Got a full ride to play for their basketball team."
Adrian nodded. "Ok, Pete, how about you?"
"Oh, I don't know," he said.
He looked at me through the mirror. "Rachel?"
I shrugged my shoulders. "I don't know. Maybe work at my guardian's company," I lied.
Liz was a bit embarrassed. "Don't grill them, Dad."
"Just saying, you know," he started. "All you guys who got to that school...you pretty much have your life planned out, right?"
Peter shook his head. "Yeah, no, we're just sophomores," he said as he motioned to me and him.
Liz leaned forward. "Peter has an internship with Tony Stark. I think he doesn't have to worry. Oh, and he's apparently Rachel's guardian."
I furrowed my eyes when her dad clenched the steering wheel. "Really? Stark?" He looked at Peter. "What do you do?"
Peter gulped a bit. "Yeah, actually, I don't intern for him anymore."
The guy laughed. "Ha, Parker got fired!"
I glared at him before reaching over and punched his arm.
"He didn't get fired," I lied. "He just didn't like how things were."
Peter went along with my lie. "Yeah, things were a bit...boring."
Liz gave us a look. "It was boring? You got to hang out with Spider-Man." She turned in her seat. "And isn't that where you two met?"
I nodded. "Yeah, I was actually there when Tony offered Peter the internship."
"Well, can't you convince him to give Peter his internship back?"
"Believe me, I've tried. But Tony was so invested into this Spider-Man guy that he wouldn't listen to me."
"Really? Spider-Man?" Her dad said. I didn't like the way he said that. He looked at me and Peter. "What's he like?"
