"MONI! WAKE UP YOU'VE GOT SCHOOL!" Oh yeah... School again. My eyes flutter open. The sun rays out of my window hit my face and nearly blind me with all the light. This morning I roll out of bed. (Not literally). After standing up then stretching, I go to the vanity and pull out the drawer on top to see the very little bit of clothes I have. I pull out my black pants, a gray tank and a striped black and gray sweater. A dark color scheme will be my outfit of the day today because, what is there to be happy about. I sigh, pick up my backpack, and head out the bedroom door. Then pass my bathroom not giving a shit of what I look like. My mother would've murdered me if I cussed around her, or anywhere. "Mom..." I mumble out loud. Warm water forms in my eyes. Then, one depression symptom slowly falls down my cheek.
Knowing my mom wouldn't want me to be like this, I wipe it off with my sleeve and head down the deadly spiral staircase. To my surprise, I don't see my grandpa in the living room or in the kitchen. Figuring he already left, I head to the dining room where I left my baseball tickets, and John's note last night once I got the awful news. I grab both of those items with no expression on my face, because the one thing that enlightened me doesn't anymore. Emotions are stupid anyways.
While I'm heading towards the door, I see a note taped to it. Once I'm at the door I open the note to see what it says.
Dear Moni,
Andrew never returned last night with the car so I took a cab. You can take one also. Just tell the driver that your last name is Levery. There will be no charge.
Love,
Your grandfather.
"Hmm," I think out loud, "I wonder why I won't have to pay for a cab because of my last name. Probably because he knows people. Well, whatever." After my out loud thinking, I tightly grip the golden door knob and twist it to the right to open the door. The stairs that lead down to the driveway quietly creek as I step on each one of them. Once down the stairs, I head to the sidewalk to start walking and looking around to find a bright yellow cab. I mean how hard could that be?
The cold breeze of an early morning is killing me and so is the jet lag of 3 hours from Oregon to New York. "Ughhh". I mumble quietly. I need some sleep ASAP. Otherwise, I might just fall down in the middle of this sidewalk and sleep.
In the corner of my eye I catch a car that looks like a bumblebee. Finally! A taxi. "HEY! TAXI"! I exclaim to the car heading towards me. They pull over and I go and swing open the backseat door. "Where to miss?" the cabdriver asks. I look over to see a man that looks like he's in his mid forties with short brown hair and dark brown eyes looking at me through the rear view mirror. "To my school... It's called... um..." Crap! I can't remember. "Spit it out miss, I don't have all day". Suddenly a light bulb turns on in my head. "Ocean Bay School!' I practically yelled to him. He nods his head and he speeds off.
While driving to school, the guy passes by the two colossal World Trade Centers, also known as the Twin Towers, my grandpa works in and says, "Isn't that breathtaking? I've been doing this job for almost 16 years now and every time I pass it I still get speechless". "I've only been here for two days and back where I grew up you never saw anything like that. Hopefully, I'll be able to go in there and look around since, my grandpa works there."
"Your grandfather must be a business man then".
"To be honest... I don't know".
"Maybe I would know him, I'm usually always picking up regulars from the towers to their house".
"All I can tell you is that his last name is Levery. I don't really remember his first name".
'SCREECH!' All of a sudden the car stopped in the street like he wasn't paying attention in traffic. "Your grandfather's last name is Levery?" I catch myself before hitting the car seat and push back to sit upright against the leather black seat. "Yes", I reply assertively, "why?" He starts to drive again when you hear the carss hoking in the back at us. "What's your name?" 'Why would a stranger want to know my name? Should I tell him?' I get interrupted with from my thoughts by the eargered cabdriver. "Well, what's your name kid?" I then make my descion, "My name is Moni Levery".
'SCREECH!' All of a sudden the car stops in the middle of the street... Again... "Moni," He says in the most darkest way. Scared and out of breath by fear, I have to ask... "Who are you?" "You'll find out soon enough. We're here. No charge. Have a nice day". I open the door and step out on the curb. Swinging the door behind me so it shuts, the mysterious cabdriver speeds off with my eyes fixed on it.
"Moni! Hey Moni!" I turn around to see Abigail yelling at me with, Isabella, Lenny, Sandra, and Pierre smiling at me.. Smiling, I walk towards them and say, "Hey guys". All of a sudden my vision cuts out. The scene soon becomes darker.
The last thing I saw was the blue sky with my friends running at me with fright.
