"Cocoa!" He just left the one friend I have left injured. It's just a puppy. Kicking a puppy on its side could break its rib cage. I run towards it with the symptoms flying in the wind. I get to the injured dog, I pick it up and start to walk with it to my house. The breeze in the air suddenly stops as a loud noise is heard in the distance. "Bang!" One shot is fired. "Bang!" Two shots are fired. "Bang!" Three shots are fired. Frozen in time, I'm scared about Andrew. Even though I know he hates me now I have to put my feelings aside and go see what's going on. I put Cocoa down and head towards the noise.

"Andrew!" I start to cry out. "Andrew! Call out if you can here me!" "Moni! Help!" A voice is heard in the distance. "I'm coming Andrew!" My heart starts to pound. My breath starts to pant. I'm sprinting as fast as I can. "Call out again Andrew!" "Over here!" He sounds like he's just a few feet away from me. Once I see him laying on the gravel by the ditch I see another shadow by the bushes. The shadow starts to move closer to Andrew.

"Andrew?"

"RUN MONI!"

A familiar voice says

"I can't let her do that Andrew."

Then I turn back to Andrew and see him.

"Why, how did I know you were going to fall for my trap. Oh right, you're still in love with the boy." He says to me with an evil look in his eyes. "No... But you'r-"

"Dead? Yeah, I got tired of playing that card. Now you've got a decision to make sweetie. It's either you or the boy."

"You can't!"

"Oh yes I can. Watch me."

Just as soon as I was about to yell, I get interrupted. "Moni!" I hear from behind me. "Mom?" I question. She's speeding in her black SUV towards me. She pulls out her pistol and shoots the man by Andrew in the foot. He falls into the ditch and I quickly grab Andrew and drag him to the SUV. "Moni! Hurry let's go!" She yells at me. Once we're in the car she heads back to the house. I hear sobbing coming from her. She says to me "You need to leave immediately. You too Andrew. He figured out where both of you lived. Andrew. Since you have no parents or an appropriate legal guardian I'm going to send you to New York with Moni." He looks at me in shock and says "I appreciate the offer b-" "No buts mister," She interrupts " You're leaving with her. You could've died tonight."

With that he shuts up. "Mom, how'd you know where I was?" I ask her anxiously. "That's the thing. I didn't." She replies "I was worried sick about you when you didn't return by 5:30. So I went out looking for you. I thought you might've walked to the park by Andrew's to go skip rocks in the river. Since that's what you do when your upset. Then I saw you. I was scared." We pulled up into the driveway and said to me "Get out and go get your bags. They're all packed and ready to go. I'll buy you and Andrew's ticket for tonight instead of tomorrow when we get to the airport but first we need to get him to the hospital." "Agreed." Comes out of Andrew's mouth.

I run into the house and grab my bags sitting by the door. Something catches my eye on the table. I start to walk over towards it. There's a letter with my name on it that says "Read when you land in New York." I grab it and put it in my bag then sprint out the door. Once I see the dog statue in the dirt on in the yard I remember something. "Cocoa!" I say out loud. Hustling to the car, I repeat in my head "I have to go back for her!" When I open the door I tell my mom about the dog and how we have to go back for it. "Alright," She says. "make it quick." I buckle up and give her directions to where the dog is at. She pulls over by the field and I pick the dog up, gently.

She starts to speed to the hospital. I hold Cocoa and whisper into its ear "We're going to go on an adventure." It wags its tail back and forth and I can tell that its smiling on the inside. Forgetting that Andrew was sitting next to me, he taps on my shoulder and I jump. He says "Did you really bring that rat with you?" "For your information its a dioxin." I reply back. He starts to giggle then I hear an "Ugh." escape out of is mouth when he moves. "Andrew! Let me see where he hurt you."

"He didn't shoot me. He did that to get your attention but he hit me in the head pretty hard and it's just my back and my knee that is still hurting me."

"I'm so sorry about this. If I never would've met yo-"

"It's fine trust me. We'll be safe soon."

"We're here." My mom exclaims. She pulls up to the hospital and says "Get out, we need to go now. I just checked on my phone and the flight that you will be on leaves at 9:30. That's 2 and a half hours away." "We'll be right back!" I exclaim to the puppy. We get out and head towards the emergency section. "You okay?" I ask Andrew concerned. "Yeah. Lets just get to the god damn room before I die." We get there and I yell "I NEED A DOCTOR ASAP!" A doctor is running towards me and says "Whats wrong?" I tell him "My friend right here I think needs to be treated immediately."

"Alright. Patients name?"

"Andrew Ray Nelson."

"Date of birth?"

"March 13th 1986."

"Alrigh wait out here while we get him checked."

I face Andrew and say "I love you." He looks away and follows the doctor.

30 Minutes Later

The doctor comes back out and speaks to my mom. She looks over at me and continues to talk to him. The look she gave me doesn't look like she has any good news for me. Once she's done she comes over and talks to me. "Moni, he has to stay here over night. Most of he wounds has been infected and a gash on his knee has cut so deep into him they had to do surgery. So you will go to New York tonight without Andrew." I start to have warm water forming in my eyes. "Sweetie," she hugs me and whispers in my ear. "it'll be fine. I'll see you soon and so will Andrew. He'll be in much better condition and then you guys can have a new beginning worry free. Alright?" "Alright." I reply back to her. "We have to go to the airport now. We have about two hours till your flight and its about a 55 minute drive. Lets go."

We separate ourselves from one another and leave the emergency room. When I exit the hospital and look back. "Andrew. I'll see you soon," I whisper to myself. "Just hang in there."
