The Party
I couldn't take my eyes off her. She was absolutely stunning. Although all I could see was her eyes, her beauty was undeniable. The red dress she wore made her blue eyes seemed to be glistening.
I took a deep breath and walked over to her. Time to be the prince now.
"Hello beautiful." I gave her my charming smile as she turned to look at me. "Don't they miss you in heaven?"
"Excuse me?" A smile tugged at her lips.
"Well you have to be an angel. No human is this flawless."
A laugh escaped her lips and it was like music to my ears. She was perfect. Perfect skin, perfect voice, perfect for royalty.
"Oh I just took a visit down here. I heard these mortal masquerade parties can be quite enjoyable." She smiled up at me.
"Can I get you something to drink while we enjoy each other's company?" I offered and she laughed again.
"You're Mr. Smooth aren't you?" She asked rhetorically. "Pink champagne is fine." Her smile was so perfect I didn't want to leave her presence even for a second.
As I walked up to the makeshift bar, I couldn't take my mind off her. I must introduce her to my father....if only I knew his number.
"What kind of drink sir?" The girl behind the counter asked impatiently. I didn't even realize that she had been asking me for a while now.
"Two pink champagnes will be good." I told her and she went to get the drinks.
When she returned I took the drinks from her and started walking away.
"Uhm excuse me Sir." She called after me. "You haven't paid for the drinks."
Pay? I thought they were free. Where am I going to get money to pay?!
I realized that a few heads had turned into our direction as the bartender tapped her feet and waited for the money.
I cleared my throat and carefully placed the wine glasses on the table. "I-I left my wallet at home." It wasn't a lie. I actually left it at home....but there wasn't any money inside.
I heard a few snickers from people around me and the bartender rolled her eyes at me. "Why didn't you stay home with your wallet?" She said with disgust in her voice.
I let out a defeated sigh knowing that my angel was waiting for her drink. When I returned she sitting at one of the decorated tables.
"Hey." I said as I approached her.
She smiled at me. "We've already met. You were supposed to be getting drinks?"
I cleared my throat. "Well about the drinks....I didn't want you to feel uneasy."
"Uneasy?" She questioned.
"Yes my Angel." I took her hand in mine. "We're going to hit the dancefloor."
"We are?" She looked up at me. "But you didn't ask. Besides, nobody else is dancing."
I looked around and sure enough the dancefloor was empty.
"This party is going to be lame without dancing. Once we start, people will follow." I coaxed her.
"I don't know...." She still seemed reluctant.
I pulled her behind me gently and a few heads turned to look at us.
"I'm nervous." She whispered. "Everybody is staring. They're probably thinking we are crazy."
I chuckled. "Well it is a good thing that you are beautiful." I held the small of her back and her hands went around my neck. We started swaying to the music and almost everyone seemed to be watching us. I really thought people would have started dancing by now.
"Still nervous?" I whispered placing my forehead on hers.
She giggled. "Just a little."
We danced and talked as the time ticked by and still no one had joined us on the dancefloor. We were about to stop when a new song blasted from the speakers.
"Lady in red....is dancing with me.... Cheek to cheek. There's no one else here, just you and me....that's where I wanna be. I hardly know this beauty by my side...."
We both smiled at the irony of the song. "I guess the DJ noticed your red dress." I chuckled as I spun her.
"I guess he did." She smiled that beautiful smile at me and I instantly felt warm.
As the song was ending, I pulled her close to me, trying to make the most of this moment. I pulled her lips into mine and kissed her. There were hoots and cheers from the crowd as she kissed me back.
A few seconds later she drew back. "I really have to leave. It was nice sharing the night with you." Before I got a chance to respond she was off the dancefloor and blending in with the crowd.
I didn't even get to ask her what her correct name was or where she was from.
"I guess Cinderella had to leave at twelve." The DJ said and everyone chuckled. I glanced at the clock and sure enough it was twelve midnight.
The irony.
I had to leave now anyway. I have to wake early for work tomorrow. I walked back to the table where Angel was sitting, wanting to relive every moment I spent with her. Among the dishes and party cups, a light caught my eyes.
I picked it up and smiled to myself. Angel left her phone and it is fingerprint protected. If I find the girl with the right fingerprint I will find my angel. Bingo!
