The Deal

I walked up to table five and handed the couple their menus.
"Hello." I said to the couple politely. "Here are your menus. I'll be back to take your order in a few minutes."

"You will take our orders now!" The Derrick guy commanded. "Do you know how long we have been waiting? The service here is terrible!"

Breathe Alex. Do not stoop to his level. You are a prince, soon to be king one day. You cannot let your anger control you.

I sighed heavily and took out my writing pad and pencil from my apron pocket. I honestly don't see why Cindy was ever with this guy. He isn't handsome at all and he has poor manners.

I took their orders and walked back to the kitchen.
"You have a very good ex-boyfriend." I said to Cindy sarcastically once I returned to the changing room.

"I know right?" She sighed, sounding serious. "Do you think I could ever get him back?" She crunched her brows as she waited for me to reply.

She can't possibly be serious.

How could she want to be with someone who treats her so badly. She must be really desperate.

"Did he ask for me?" She looked at me hopefully.

"No." I said flatly. "He was very rude actually. I can't see how you could actually be in love with someone with such poor manners."

She slumped on the seat. "He just has a big ego. Other than that he is very sweet."

"So sweet that he dumped you on your birthday?"

She looked up at me and I wished I didn't say that.
"I'm sorry." I told her. "But that is the truth. You need to start accepting it. You need to move on. He clearly has moved on. You will only hurt yourself if you keep pining over someone who doesn't love you anymore."

She shook her head. "You're right. It is time for me to move on."

I can't believe that I am giving advice. Me. The guy that my father believes is too childish and doesn't take life seriously. Boy if he could only see me now. I can honesty say I'm looking at life from a different vantage point, albeit a poor, humble one.

"Now back to the deal. You are still going to help me, right?"

"Yea. Whatever." She waved her hand on me. "We'll talk about it after work. I'll text you."

"Uhm.... I don't have a phone." I told her and she laughed.

"You're kidding, right?" She asked, still laughing.

I rolled my eyes. "I am going to buy one after I get my pay cheque and pay my bills and buy some groceries."

She looked somewhat taken aback by my ranting. "Oh my God, you're really serious? How poor are you Mr. Prince?"

I smiled a little. "Poor enough to can't afford dinner at nights." I told her honestly. I don't know why, but I find it easy to just open up to her and talk about anything.

"Is someone going to attend to the customers?" Stacy's angry voice travelled to the changing room causing us both to jump.

We quickly got out of the room and started serving customers.

This job was exhausting but I loved it nonetheless. It was nice to see genuine smiles for a change. I was used to people giving me fake smiles because I'm a Prince or because they wanted something from me. These people were different. They saw me as an ordinary man working so he could better himself. I loved this feeling and I love getting tips from them. One month ago, if you told me I would be collecting tips from common people I would have probably laughed in your face. But here I was accepting charity and bringing home leftovers to eat.

"Alex. There's a little extra leftovers than usual. Do you mind throwing it away on your way out." Stacy told me and I shook my head. There were people actually starving and she's talking about wasting food.

"OK mam." I said to her as I scraped the leftovers into two different plates. It wouldn't hurt giving the man that lives outside my building a good night's dinner.

Cindy and I decided to meet in my apartment after work to discuss how we were going to find my Angel.

"I've only known you a few days and I'm already going home with you. What kind of person does that make me?" Cindy said as we stepped off the bus.

I laughed. "The kind that wants to help a guy get a girl."
She giggled as we walked toward the building.

"Well well. It looks like the Prince has found a princess." Emanuel, the homeless man that lives outside my apartment building said. "And who's the lovely lady?"

I beamed at him. "This is Cinderella Berlock." I said as I handed him the plate of food. "See you in the morning Manu. Cindy and I will be up in my room for a while. Enjoy your meal."

"Did you have to tell him my full name?" Cindy shoved my shoulder as we walked up the steps to my apartment. "And you made it sound as if we were going up to your apartment to do it."

"It?" I asked. What century was she from.

"Yea you know......it." She said again and I started laughing.

"You mean sex?" I asked and her face turned a bright shade of red.

"Shut up." She said as I pushed the door open to my washed up apartment.
