Life Sucks

I dislike this girl I'm working with so much. She is so organized that it is driving me crazy. Every table I clean, she goes back and re-clean it.

If I had a phone or if I knew my father's phone number I would call him and tell him that I am giving up right now!

It is only my second day and I feel like I am growing grey hairs already. My day started off rather uneventful but by the time the lunch hour rush came, I had food all over my uniform. A lady allowed her toddler to throw food at me, a teenager didn't like her fries so she threw it at me and left and on top of it all my boss shouted at me for not having good customer service.

I can't believe this is how people who have money act. They have no respect what so ever for their fellow citizens.

"Ugh! I'm so tired." I sat in the changing room as Cindy came in. It was finally the end of the working day and I felt like I just ran a hundred miles. I was tired.

"Can you get out so I can change jerk?" Cindy placed her hands on her hips and stared at me.

"Change into what? This is the clothes you wore to work this morning." I protested, not wanting to move from my comfortable spot.

She sighed. "I need to change before I go home. Do you expect me to wear these sweaty clothes home?"

I nodded.

"Eeew!" She replied. "I wouldn't want to see the dump you live in."

How am going to let this mere peasant talk to me like this? I'm a prince for Christ's sake and she's nothing but a waitress.

"Apologize this instance!" I demanded and she laughed right in my face. "I am royalty." I confirmed to her and she laughed even harder.

"Well you have a Royal stain on your Royal uniform. You better get rid of it or you'll be royally fired tomorrow." She continued laughing and I stepped out to allow her to change.

She is right. I was stripped of all my possessions. I'm no longer royalty and I need to start thinking like it. I have nothing to eat tonight because I haven't got paid yet. Royalty doesn't live like that. They don't have to work or worry about where the next meal is coming from. They have people to do it for them.

I rubbed my head slowly as a thought occurred to me.

My father is going to give the Kingship to his brother! That's the reason why he wanted me to work. This is how it is going to be for the rest of my life! I am the only heir he has and he often told me that I am irresponsible so I know he will not entrust a kingdom to me.

It was all getting clearer to me. I cannot believe I never thought of it before.

Cindy and I locked up the shop and left a few minutes later.

I was deep in thought by the time I got to the apartment.

"Hello Prince." The man that lives on the side walk called to me with a laugh. "How is the royal Highness this evening?"

I ignored him and continued walking toward the apartment building. I stopped in my tracks remembering I'm no longer a Prince. I turned back to him. "My day was exhausting Mr- what did you say your name was again?"

He chuckled. "The name is Emanuel but my friends call me Manu. Maybe one day if you're lucky I'll let you call me Manu too."

I chuckled at his optimistic spirit. I have no idea how someone who lives on the street can be so happy all the time. I live in an apartment and I'm not happy.

I opened my apartment door and slumped unto the coach. I had no idea life was so hard.

There was a knock on the door and I was happy when I opened it and saw Thelma.

"Have you eaten yet Alex?" She asked and I shook my head no.

"Ok then you can come have dinner with us after you've cleaned up." She smiled that warm smile and I couldn't help but smile back.

She left and I went to take a shower and wash my uniform for tomorrow. Once I was finished I headed to Thelma's apartment.

"Mommy Prince Alex is here." The little girl shouted when she opened the door and saw me. "Hi. I'm Deborah and I'm going to be a princess when I grow up." Her smile revealed that her two front teeth were missing.

"Its nice to meet you Deborah." I shook her outstretched hand and she dragged me toward the kitchen.

"So have you got your mask already?" Miss Thelma asked.

"Mask?" I was a little confused.

"For the party tonight." She said as she poured orange juice into my glass.

I didn't even remember about the masquerade party in the parking lot tonight.

"I do not think I am going Miss Thelma. I have nothing to wear." I told her wearily.

"You can wear Dad's clothes." Deborah smiled at me. "We won't mind sharing them with a prince."

"No I can't. I'm a Pr-" I caught myself before I said the word Prince. "I'm a private person." I said instead. "It would feel odd to wear someone else's clothes."

"Nonsense." Miss Thelma brushed me off. "Once you're done eating, we can see what fits you."

So a few minutes later I was heading down the stairs wearing a suit that was too tight for me and mask that Deborah made.
