Quigley walked into my room just a few minutes after I summoned him.
I was not alone in my room. I was accompanied by my father, who also wanted a word with Quigley about his . . . intentions with Vi.
When Quigley walked in and saw that I wasn't alone, he froze. He shook off the paralysis quickly and reached out to shake father's hand.
"I don't believe we have been properly introduced. My name is Quigley, Quigley Quagmire."
Father reached out and shook Quigley's hand.
"Firm handshake," Father noted. "Much better than Vi's last boyfriend. And far more polite as well."
Quigley choked on air. "Last boyfriend?"
"Oh yeah," I said. "Vi has had... what, three boyfriends now, not including you?"
Father nodded.
At Quigley's confused expression, I sighed and began explaining. "Well, first she dated a guy named Keagan, but that didn't last long. He cheated on her with Sara Gasagivilano, the most popular girl in her grade. Then, just as an over correction, she dated a guy named Daren. As captain of the chess club, top mathlete, and grade-A suck up, he was completely the opposite of Keagan. She realized what she was doing with him quickly and broke it off easy. Finally, just a few weeks ago, she dated a guy called Rocco. He was the epitome of a bad boy. He was two grades older than her but took an interest for some reason. He was wanted by just about every single girl in the school. He wore a leather jacket and drove a motorcycle. She never really liked him, she was just flattered by the attention. He broke up with her after a few days and she was fine."
"Wow."
This came from Quigley.
"What is this about?" he asked almost a full minute later.
"My son," father said, glancing at me, "Informed me that you had asked my daughter out, and I thought it would be best to check you out and see if you are good enough for my daughter."
"I'll save you the trouble," I stated simply, even laughing a little. "I'm not. I will never be good enough for Vi, but I'm gonna try as hard as I possibly can. She's wonderful and amazing and a lovely person with a beautiful heart and a kind soul. Even if I was a flipping saint I still wouldn't be good enough for her. She's . . . perfect."
Dad and I were both stunned into silence by this sudden outburst. Then, dad started laughing. He laughed and laughed for at least a minute before he calmed himself and regained his composure.
"Well, that sure was something," he said, beginning to laugh again, but he calmed his laughs before they got out of hand. "You have my blessing to date my daughter. It's always nice to know that your daughter's boyfriend knows he isn't good enough for her. All of her past boyfriends had one thing in common; they all thought they deserved her. I hope you last a little longer than them."
Quigley smiled. Father left.
"You can go if you want," I said, motioning him towards the door.
"Wait," he said. "I know you like my sister." I basically confirmed his theory by blushing my face off. "And she likes you too. She told me she does, but she didn't really need to. I can tell. Since you both like each other and are too stubborn to admit it, just ask her out. Please."
Stunned, I simply nodded, and he left. Izzie walked in a few seconds after he left. "What was that about?!" She asked. "My brother looked like he had swallowed a slug!"
I laughed and she plopped down next to me on the bed.
Vi ran in and yelled, "MOVIE NIGHT IN THE GREAT ROOM TONIGHT POPCORN AND MOVIE PROVIDED BRING ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT!!" All in one breath. Then she scrambled out the door, evidently to run right into Quigley, because they both stumbled into our room and fell, Quigley planting his arms on either side of Vi as to not crush her when he landed above her. He hovered a few centimeters above her and looked down at her eyes. It looked like they were about to kiss until Izzie made a gagging noise and I laughed. Quigley scrambled off Vi and helped her up.
They left and went back to their room. Izzie stretched out, laying down and putting her feet on my lap. I thought about what Quigley had said.
"Izzie?" I asked.
"Yeah?"
I took a deep breath, ready to ask her to the V.F.D. gathering, when Vi ran in and said, "Get your butts out here, we are picking the movie!"
I stood and took her hand to help her up. I was about to let her hand go, but she held on to me. So I held her hand all the way to the great room. Sunny was sitting next to Duncan, and Vi was perched on Quigley's lap. I sat and Izzie, being the laziest being on the planet, laid down with her head on my lap. Violet pulled out her laptop from behind one of the pillows. It was hooked up to the TV so she could show everyone. (BTW I'm also not not making the technology the same as their time period cause I don't want to)
