''Visitors are only allowed in from 2pm until 6pm'' The security huffed out after we reached the counter.
''See, Dahlia? We should head home now. 'My mom tugged on my arm hurriedly
''Mom, calm down. You agreed to this'' I said to my mom and looked at the security officer again.
''I know and I hope you would make an exception for me and my mom. 'I said with my best smile and I pulled out my bureau tag. Perks of being a detective
''Your names please' 'She sighed and took out a permission slip and a pen
''Dahlia Aqua Milan and Charlotta Meadow Milan. ''I answered sweetly.
She tears it off from the book and hand it out to me. I grabbed it without hesitation and dragged my mom in with me.
''How did you convince me to do this?'' My mom muttered under her breath
''It's going to be fine. Besides it's not my first time here''
''Yeah but it's my first time here, Dahlia'' My mom pouts in disbelieve
''Sometimes I wonder who is the mother and the daughter in this family'' I shook my head with a smile.
We reached another security table and I handed them the slip. He signed it in approval and led me into the cell.
I placed my hand in the pockets of my sheer green jumpsuit as I walked up to the cell.
''How you holding up, Kenneth?''
He turned to me and shut the book that he was reading. He smiled as he walked up to the metal gate.
''Took you long enough for you to get back in here again'' Kenneth raised his eyebrows at me.
''Sorry, got caught up with work''
''By work, do you mean Asher ?'' He leaned against the side of the wall
''Well yeah and other actual work stuff'' I look down trying to hide the fact that I was blushing.
He snorts and rolled his eye ''God, spare me the details on what you guys have are been up to''
''Hey! Asher is a nice guy'' I defended him and smacked him on his arm
He flinches in pain but then he covered it up with a laugh. ''Well he was not being nice to me when he came the other day. He hit me up really good'' Kenneth flinches again as he recalled that memory.
''You deserved that. Asher could have died from all that stab wounds'' I huffed out, crossing my arms.
He scratches the back of his neck. ''I was delusional and I promised that I'm a changed person now. All that therapy and counselling really made an effect on me and I realized I'm not the person that my dad wants me to be''
''Glad to hear that and how my book doing? 'I pointed at the book that he held by his side.
''My heart and other black holes '' He scoffed at the title. ''You are such a teenager. Grow up''
I raised one of my eyebrows at him. ''One of us has a stable job and the other is stuck in jail reading a book. Who's the teenager here?''
''Fine you win'' He flipped through the pages of the book. ''It's actually a pretty good book. I dig it''
''See I knew you would like it. I'll be back next week with another book''
''Please do. I need company. It's so boring in here and don't bring any cliché romantic novels'' He begged.
''Speaking of company I actually brought someone here to meet you.'' My eyes searched the hallway only to find my mom standing in the corner. I gestured her to come here and she did after a minute of persuading.
''Who is it?'' Kenneth questioned
''Hello Ken'' She pursed her lips into a smile.
''Dad used to say you would always call me that when I was a kid'' He grinned widely
''Because that's what your name is short for. Duh'' I sneered at him
He pretends to ignore me and continued to have a really good conversation with his mother.
My mother.
Our mother.
