Chapter thirteen

Danny

I practice the pieces from the big band again before I go to rehearsal with Leo in tow. Today is the performance at the music club in the evening and we are supposed to put on something casual. I hammer my heart against the ribs like crazy and I feel like our hearts are beating in the same beat. I'd most like to take Sky in my arm now, kiss her and never let go again. The duette's final tone fades away and we bow to roaring applause. Sky sits down at the piano for the song I wrote. I can see how moved Sky is, even though she has heard the play so many times before, tears running down her cheeks, but no one but me notices that and neither does anyone know that the play is about us. Skys and my looks cross briefly and I recognise grief, guilt, but even a sparse love, joy and hope shines in her emerald eyes, which run a shiver down my back every time I look into them. My eyes are only meant to radiate boundless love, for my heart will forever belong to her alone (but also Leo). I reach into my pocket, where I push the ring I once gave her with a letter, grab and inconspicuously push her as I leave the stage. In celebration of the day, because our performance has succeeded so well, we continue to listen to the music together and sit together, laugh, drink Coke and talk. Even Sky looks pretty relaxed from the outside, which makes me happy.

Sky

It was a nice night yesterday and I've been able to relax again and turn my head off for a long time. I only came home late, which is why I didn't open Danny's letter again last night. Now I'm sitting on the terrace holding this letter undecided in my hands. But I decide to open the letter and first of all the ring of Danny comes to meet me. I put him aside and unfold the letter, which was still in the envelope, and read.

Dear Sky,

I'm sorry I don't give you the ring the way you actually give it to such a wonderful woman as you.
