(Niall’s P.O.V)

I stared at Mara for a few minutes, trying to take in the fact that she’s a ghost. How was it even possible? Why was she a ghost? Why did she tell me? Is she going to leave me? She looked worried so I spoke.

"A ghost?" I asked her.

"Yep." She said. Neither of us moved or said anything. I guess she knew I’d need time to adjust.

"What was…" I took a deep breath. "What was it like? If…if you don’t mind me asking?" the second I said it I wanted to take it back. She looked surprised, obviously not expecting me to ask that.

"I erm…" she looked like she didn’t know what to say.

"Sorry. You don’t have to answer." I told her.

"No, it’s fine. It was… weird. I mean, it’s like nothing I’d ever felt before. I couldn’t feel, hear or see anything. I didn’t know what had happened. I could barely think." She said, a look of sadness in her eyes.

"Did it hurt?" I asked. Again, regretting asking her.

"I want to say no, but then I’d be lying." She told me. She looked as if she were going to cry. Could she cry? I guessed not seems as her eyes remained dry.

"I’m sorry." I said. It was true, I was. She had been coming to the One Direction concert. I was partly to blame for what happened.

"Why?" she asked me.

"You were coming to our concert Mara. It was the only reason you were here." I said, feeling tears pricking my eyes.

"No way, this is not your fault. How could it be? You didn’t know what would happen. No-one did. Don’t you dare blame yourself." She said placing one of her hands on my face. She felt so real. As if she was alive. She was cold but solid. Like she’d been outside in the cold air. I put my hand on top of hers.

"You feel so real." I said looking into her eyes. She smiled slightly.

"Thanks." She said. I tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear. I hadn’t realised that I had moved a lot closer to her. I just couldn’t get my head around the fact that she was a ghost. She just didn’t seem… ghost like. She seemed so alive. I leant in, my lips almost reaching hers. But before I could kiss her my door burst open.

"Niall!" I turned to see Louis standing in the doorway.

"Yes Louis?" I asked him.

"Have you seen Harry?" he asked.

"Last time I saw him he was in his room." I told him.

"Ok." He turned to leave but then stopped. He turned back to face me. "How’re you doing mate?" he asked.

"I’m fine." I told him.

"You sure? Because I know you were really upset about that girl running off and I just wanted to make sure you were ok." He said. I could hear Mara laughing slightly.

"I’m sure. I’ll be ok. Thanks Louis." I said. He smiled and left.

"So you were really upset when I left hey?" she teased me. I rolled my eyes.

"I guess I was a little upset." I admitted. I wasn’t going to tell her just how upset I was. We both sat down.

"Are you mad at me?" she asked nervously.

"No, why would I be mad at you?" I asked confused.

"Because I didn’t tell you. I lied." She said.

"Don’t worry. I understand. You were worried about telling me and had to wait until the right time, although I guess there never really is a ‘right time’ for that kind of thing." I said laughing a bit.

"True." She agreed with me. I suddenly remembered something.

"Why can I see you?" I asked her. She bit her lip nervously.

"I don’t know." She said. I had a feeling she was lying, but she’d just told me that she was a ghost… I wasn’t going to push her. Right then I wished I had kissed her before Louis had butted in. Unfortunately, the moment had gone.

"Are there other ghosts?" I asked.

"Erm, a few. I’ve only met one other." She said. We were both silent again. "I can leave, if you want? It must be a little weird. I’d understand if you wanted me to go." She said looking down.

"No. I would never want you to go." I said. Not knowing why I said it, but glad I did when I saw the smile and blush on her face. It made me smile too.

We talked for a while. Getting to know each other better, knowing we couldn’t go out anywhere. I guessed she was sad about that. Having no-one be able to see her. I couldn’t even begin to imagine the loneliness she must have felt. It made me feel special, that only I could see her. Like she was my secret.

"I really like you." I blurted out. It was true though. I really really liked her. More than any girl I’ve ever met before. There was just something about her, aside from the fact that she was a ghost. She truly did have that ‘one thing’. Sounds cheesy I know, but it was true. She blushed.

"Thanks, I really like you too." She smiled. I leaned in, hoping the moment wouldn’t be ruined this time. Our lips connected and it was like fireworks. I didn’t know if she could feel it. I hoped she could. I could. I pulled her closer and deepened the kiss,

before I had to break it so I could breathe.

"Sorry." She mumbled. She’d forgot I needed to breathe. To be honest, so had I.

"It’s fine." I said and smiled at her. She was perfect. I never wanted the moment to end, both of us smiling and staring into each others eyes. However, all good things must come to an end.
