Matt’s POV
I woke up this morning and called Riley, he helped me keep tab on Mia, but it seems he’s been ignoring me so I’ve planned to surprise them later at their apartment; and he definitely can’t avoid me then. But also it’s my chance to grow a pair and apologise to Mia as I have been an arse to her.
I pull up to her apartment and jump out; I take the steps 2 at a time. I get to their level and come face to face with a sobbing Scarlett. I then started to panic; I know most men can handle tears but I’m one the few who can’t and feel awkward and useless around crying women.
That’s when I notice that Mia’s door is open and feels like I’ve received a punch to the gut. It’s eerily quiet and is missing something, her. “Where’s Mia?” Comes out of my mouth before I could stop myself. But all I got as a reply is another break down of sobs from Scarlett. I then walk into her apartment and see that’s she’s left a spare set of keys, some money and beautifully wrapped presents with Scarlett and Riley’s name on them and under them is a letter with my name on it.
I quick retrieve the letter and rip it open.
Matt,
I’ve gone away for an awhile
To sort out my head.
I don’t know how long I’ll be
Gone but everything’s sorted
It’s nice to know that you’re doing
Okay after all these years.
You know that I’ve held a grudge against
You for 15 years but I’ve got my reasons.
The things I said were harsh and I shouldn’t
Have got angry at you like that but you
Bring that side out of me. Look after Scarlett
And riley for me. Hope you understand my
Reasons and have a good life.
Mia xx
I wipe the tear that fell for my eye so Scarlett doesn’t notice it and re-read the letter. Riley then walks in with Scarlett clinging on to him for dear life. “Mia’s gone” I whisper under my breath to get it into my brain. Scarlett picks up the presents and turns to heads for her apartment so she could have privacy. Riley follows Scarlett and leaves me in silence.
