“Do I have to go to another one? They are boring!” I wined at my mother’s reflection in the mirror whilst she was styling my hair for another one of her fundraisers.
“Yes sweetie you do, you’re helping mummy and you also will look pretty like a princess” My mum persuaded me and for a 5 year old I fantasized about being a princess so it earned a little giggle.
We got all dressed up and left, the place was so cramped so squeezing through seem a lot more difficult so I said my hellos and told my mum that I’m going outside to play with the other kids.
“Okay Scarlett, be safe” was my mother’s reply before I escaped.
Outside all the kids my age were playing games like tag and stuck in the mud. I joined in and at the end of stuck in the mud. It seemed that I one of the boys noticed that I had joined and started to walk towards me.
“I haven’t seen you around, I’m Jace, what’s your name?” he said in what sounded like a southern accent
“Hi Jace, I’m Scarlett” I answered shyly
“Well Scarlett do you want to roll down the hill with me?” my face lit up and his eyes gleamed with excitement.
Hours of playing later we were racing down the hill, I’ve got grass stains all over my dress but I was having fun instead of being bored. I got to the bottom after him and when I got up he was just staring at me. It all happened so fast he lent in quick and his lips touched mine for a split second and then sprinted off laughing, I stood there shocked and I wanted to cry, the stupid boy just stole my first kiss.
I ran back into the fundraiser on a hunt to find my mum and lucky I found her quickly talking to one of our neighbours. I ran straight up to her and broken down at her feet.
“Mummy, mummy” I sobbed and shoved my face into her dress; she finally noticed me and picked me up.
“Scarlett honey what’s the matter? Why are you covered with grass stains?” I continued to sob and she tried calming me down. A few minutes later I wasn’t sobbing and stopping crying but my breathing wasn’t back to normal.
“He stole it mummy, he took it” a tear rolled down my cheek and she swept it away with her thumb.
“Who’s he and what did he take?” my mother started questioning my whilst calming me down again.
“My first kiss, he’s not a prince or a frog, he kissed me and ran off laughing” the tears started again. My mum thanked everyone said her good-bye and we went home.
