Chapter 10
"Sitting here feeling kinda crazy / But not just any crazy / It's the kind you feel when you love somebody" Melanie Fiona - 4 A.M.
I juggled the tray in my hands and pushed the bedroom door open with my foot. Rick was still sound asleep with his deep breathing filling the room. Crossing the room, I placed the serving tray on the nightstand.
I covered my mouth and yawned for the umpteenth time since I woke up at 5am. It's 6:45 and my body wanted that extra hour of sleep that it's used to but I had too much stuff to get done for tonight.
I ran my fingers through Rick's hair a couple times and then down his naked back. He did a cute little moan in his sleep. I massaged his back some more causing him to roll over. His eyes opened and he blinked a few times to get adjusted.
"Happy Birthday!" I exclaimed. He lifted his head for a few seconds before letting it drop back down and dragged both his hands down his face. I was upset last night but looking at him now with his cute tired face and sleepy eyes- all my frustration melted away. Today is his day. It's all about him and whatever he wants.
"Thank you," he mumbled in his sexy sleepy voice. I placed the tray with his breakfast over his legs. Rick's eyes perked up some as he observed the buffet I cooked for him. All his favorites: eggs, sausage, bacon, stuffed French toast, home fries with onions and peppers and his morning coffee on the side. "Damn..."
I leaned down and kissed his lips, lingering for a second before kissing him again and again. I've missed those lips so much that even morning breath wasn't going to stop me from getting some smooches. I forced myself to pull away. I'm running on a tight time schedule and didn't factor in morning sex.
But if he really wants too...
"You're leaving?" Rick asked biting a piece of bacon. "Like that?" I looked down at my peach racer-back loose tank and denim shorts.
"Yeah, is there something wrong with my outfit?"
He shrugged and continued to stuff his mouth with food. "Looks really casual for work. And you're leaving early. If I didn't know any better-" he stopped talking and cut his eyes at me with a devilish smirk.
"Oh gosh shut up." I laughed. "I'm off. I have an early hair appointment plus a bunch of other stuff to do."
He raised his eyebrows. "For me?"
"Yes for you. Stop talking with your mouth full. I have to go. But, please please please try your hardest to be home on time tonight. I have plans for us," I begged with my hands clasped together. Rick sighed, chewing slowly on his French toast like he was contemplating my words.
"I always try."
I rolled my eyes. I did not want to have this argument. "Try again tonight. Please."
"Okay, okay. I'll be home no later than 7pm. Does that work for you Your Highness?" For the sake of his birthday I chose to ignore his sarcasm. I gave him another kiss on the cheek and left for my hair appointment. I've had this hair for too long and it's time for a new sew-in.

After 4 hours at the hair salon, an hour at the nail salon, another hour spent at the grocery store and a 10 minute wax somewhere in the middle, I made it back home a few minutes shy of 3pm. Happy to be home, I kicked out of my flip flops going directly into the kitchen to start Rick's dinner. I put the groceries and birthday cake away. First thing I went to work on was taking out the steaks and seasoning them so they'd have time to marinate.
The doorbell rang as I put the steaks in the refrigerator. I washed my hands and went to the door. Hurriedly, I opened the door for the pole installation workers.
