Chapter Two

Look who's back! It me, my bois. I'm going to be switching between Kris, Noelle, and Susie. Hope you guys enjoy!

Noelle was awoken by the familiar smell of pancakes on the stove. The smell of fresh batter and blueberries gave her enough motivation to drag herself out of bed, though grogginess still clouded her head.
She got dressed, grabbed her book bag, and walked downstairs, stifling a final yawn.
"Hi, sweetie," her mother greeted. "Your pancakes are on the table. Now, I'm going out of town for work. I have to meet with some other government officials, say won't be back until Sunday." She fiddled with her keys.
"Okay, Mom. I'll be sure to let Dad know!" Noelle answered. Her mother blew a kiss and ran out the door.
"Just me for the rest of the week," she mumbled to herself.
She wolfed down her pancakes and headed for school. She enjoyed school for the most part. Ms. Alphys was nice, the other students were okay (except Birdly), and she always got good grades.
On the way to class, she saw Kris. She pondered whether to go talk to him. They used to be such good friends, Noelle always helping him with schoolwork, and Kris always including her in his prank planning. She decided to just get to class, feeling it would be awkward. She also didn't want to be late, as Kris tended to be. Or so she told herself.
After three grueling class periods, it was finally lunch time. She sat at her usual table, waiting to be pestered by her classmates for homework. She hated it. She was just to shy to say no to them.
    "Uh... Hey, Noelle?"
Noelle sighed to herself, but perked up when she saw it was Kris. What was he doing here?
    "Yeah?"
He handed her an envelope, marked with a pretty little wax stamp on it. What could it be?
She dug out her pencil and used it to open the mysterious note.
    Then the lunch bell rang.
Noelle cursed to herself as she scarfed down the last of her salad, shoving the envelope into her pocket, as she rushed to class.

                      ********

Noelle was on her way home, still wondering what was in the note Kris had gave her. What could it have been about? She resisted the urge to look at it until she got home.
It took her a little bit, but she made it to the tall and barren gates that separated her home from the rest of Hometown. The gates always creeped her out as a kid. They seemed eerie and looming. Even now that she was a teen, the gates glared at her as she passed through into her house.
She walked into the kitchen of her barren household, loneliness all too familiar.
She new how to take care of herself, though. She knew how to cook, do laundry, wash dishes, pretty much everything she needed to know about living by herself for a couple days.
She fixed herself some noodles for a snack, since she didn't really get to enjoy lunch. Her mind brought her back to Kris. She'd never seen him that embarrassed, even when Toriel gave him a public lecture.
Once her noodles were done, she took it to the family couch. Well, couldn't really call it a 'family' couch, since she was the only one that sat in it. Her and Kris.
She remembered how Asgore would bring Kris over whenever he visited. She and Kris always played board games or teased each other. Noelle loved those memories. Too bad it had to fall apart.
Once Toriel and Asgore had their nasty divorce, it was horrible. Kris had become isolated, and his precious visits ceased. She saw him in school, but felt too shy to talk to him.
Then she remembered the note. She dug it out of her pocket, eager to reveal it's secrets. She read:

             Dear Noelle

I know we haven't talked in a while. I'm sorry we haven't caught up. Would you like to be my date to the Sadie Hawkman's Dance?

                                   -Kris

Noelle felt stupid. Of course it was about the dance! How could she have not thought about that? She let the letter sink in. Kris wanted to go to the dance with her? Why?
She then thought of Susie, the bully of the school, the girl she'd had a crush on for as long as she knew her. She was planning on asking her. But she couldn't reject Kris! He wanted to reform the broken bond of their childhood.
She took out her phone and scrolled through her contacts until she found Kris. She immediately texted him.

I read your note. And my answer is yes! Will you pick me up?

She felt giddy at the thought of having a date to the dance. She thought she would have to be alone, standing awkwardly in the corner, like last time.
She watched her phone, waiting for a response. She nervously chewed at her fork, a habit that she knew not of the origin. Calm down, she told herself. A watched pot never boils.
She got up to leave the room and retrieve her things, only to remember that the school seemed to have let off on homework since they announced the dance. She had nothing to do.
    Bzzzzt! Bzzzzt!
Noelle practically dove into the couch. She checked who it was from. Sure enough, it was Kris.

    Of course.

Noelle knew that her face was on fire. She didn't care. She was really happy that she and Kris could still be friends after all this time.
Maybe a little more than friends.

                      ********

The next day, Noelle made sure to find Kris in the hall before class.
    "Hi!"
"Uh... Hey." She could see Kris blush.
Noelle had no idea what to say. She was just standing there like an idiot.
"Wanna go get some pizza later?" The question caught her off guard. Kris was able to collect himself better than her, it seemed.
"Y-yeah," she answered, blushing. The tardy bell rang and they made there way to class.
Kris slipped his hand into hers as they walked, making her blush even more. She saw Susie up ahead, eyeing her. She immediately let go of Kris's hand and rushed past. She didn't think until she had already gotten to her desk.
What did I just do?! I got nervous because of Susie, but that doesn't mean I just leave Kris hanging!
She tried to run back out, but the tardy bell rang, flooding the door with monsters, making it impossible to get through.
She sighed and walked back to her seat. She set herself up to where she knew Alphys wouldn't see her phone and texted Kris.

Sorry about that. I don't know what happened there...

Not even a minute later, she felt her phone buzz on her lap.

It's okay. Why were you so nervous?

"K-Kris, please put your phone away until the bell rings. I want you to focus on c-class right now."
She jumped when Ms. Alphys started talking. She shoved her phone into her backpack, hoping the teacher wouldn't notice.
The rest of class was pretty boring, but at least Noelle had something to look forward to.

Alright, this is going better than I thought. I had a bit of writer's block, but I think I have a good baseline for the next chapter. Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments below! (Hi Hewy)
