Hey guys, sorry for the delay, some stuff came up, and I was wanting to make the newer chapters longer. Enjoy!
Kris had asked out a girl. That girl had said yes. He had a date that very night. Now what?
As he ran home in a state of panic and glee, he thought about what to tell Toriel. Was she gonna get involved? Was she gonna ask questions? Was she going to embarrass him in front of his first, dare he say it, girlfriend?
Just play it cool, tell her you have a date, and everything will be fine, he told himself.
"Hey, sweetie, how was school?"
His mother's warm welcome, ever familiar, soaked into him like water into a sponge.
"It was fun." He cleared his throat.
He dashed to his room upstairs and sighed with relief. He didn't need his mom right now.
He looked through his closet to find some of Asriel's old clothes. He had grown quite a bit, and his older brother left him plenty of clothes to choose from. He picked out some nice jeans and a button-up shirt.
Wait, when was he even supposed to pick her up? Wasn't it 7? He checked the clock. It was only 4:52. He had time to kill.
He thought about what he should do. Wouldn't hurt to take a shower, he decided.
He walked to the bathroom down the hall, forgetting all about his mother.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you! We were invited to that new restaurant, so we're eating there. It's really nice!"
Kris's stomach dropped. He had a date tonight! How was he going to blow this off?
"Uh... Mom?"
"Yes, dear?"
"I'm not going with you."
"What do you mean? We are being invited and given food by our friends! Of course you're going!" They always had little fights like these. It was becoming much more common since Asriel had went to college.
"I don't want to go."
"You're going and that's final. We aren't going to just say no to this act of kindness."
"I've got more important things to do!" He knew that he should have stopped. He knew he shouldn't do it. He did it anyway.
"More important than your family?"
Kris stormed into the living room and grabbed the buttercups Asgore had given Toriel and put them in his pocket. "By family, you mean you! Dad isn't gonna be there! He's family, too!"
Kris ran out the door. He kept going until he tired out. He plopped himself onto the ground, propping his back on a large tree.
He needed to get away from life for a while. What better place than the park? Quiet, serene, and no problems.*************
Kris's parents had divorced years ago. He remembered how he and Asriel would go upstairs to get away from all the fighting. Kris never understood what was happening. Asriel comforted him. Asgore had always been laid back and docile. Toriel had always been strict. Their differences led to a nasty divorce that tore the family apart.
Almost an hour has passed. Kris hadn't gotten back up from his spot. He looked at his phone. Almost 6. He got up and headed the way he came.
Once he got into familiar territory, he called Noelle. After dialing a little bit, she picked up.
"Hey, Kris!"
"Hi."
"Are you coming to get me soon?"
"Uh, yeah, of course. Sorry, it's just that a lot has been happening."
"Not trying to be nosy, but what kind of stuff?"
"Problems with Mom."
"Well, that's not too bad-"
"About Dad."
"... Oh. Sorry."
"Why are you apologizing? You haven't done anything."
"I don't know. M-maybe we should talk about this later."
"... Yeah."
Kris hung up. He was nearing Noelle's house. He bit back the resentment he had for his dysfunctional family as he pressed the button on the side of the gate. He heard a voice from the little speaker beneath the button.
"K-Kris? I'm not ready yet! I'll j-just be a second!"
"No rush," he responded. After what seemed like a bit more than a second, he saw Noelle emerge from the house. She has wearing a beautiful blue dress that came past her knees. It made her look much more mature, except for the tufts of fur that poked up around the edge of her neck, arms, and cleavage. He realized he had been staring at the third one for a bit too long.
He looked at himself. All he had was an old dress shirt and some jeans. He wasn't even able to get a shower in beforehand. Then he remembered his secret weapon: the buttercups he had saved from the trash.
"Here you go." He handed them to the deer girl. She blushed and chuckled, her nervous habit. Even after so long, Kris knew her reactions. He smiled at the thought.
"Oh, thank you!" Noelle sniffed them deeply and sneezed, "They're great! Did you get them from your dad?"
"No, my mom's garbage." He chuckled to himself. Noelle smiled and hugged him.
"Now, how about that pizza?"
They started walking down the street, receiving looks from the whole town. He knew what they were thinking, but decided that it wasn't important. He snuck his hand into hers, like he did earlier that day. She blushed a shade of red.
"This is nice." She said. She rested her head on Kris's shoulder. He felt something well up inside of him. A strange sense of pride that he had gotten a girl into physical contact. Kind of romantic. He was glad that Ice-E's was a while away.
He thought for a moment. They were all dressed up for pizza? Was he really going to take his first date to a pizza place? There was that restaurant across from the school house. Maybe that would work instead.
"Hey, Noelle," he started. "Let's go to that restaurant by the school. I'm sure it would be more fitting to our attire."
"Are you sure? I didn't bring any money..."
Kris scoffed. "Of course I was expecting to pay. Don't worry, divorced parents have their benefits."
They made their way back towards the restaurant, it's glimmering lights growing ever more beautiful in the growing darkness. They walked inside, taking a look around at the large interior. There were cushioned booths and fancy menu. It wasn't an especially expensive restaurant, just a bit more proper than fast food. They picked a spot by the window and looked at the menu. They sat for an awkward moment of silence picking their meal from the large selection.
The waitress greeted them happily and asked for their orders. Kris went with steak with two sides while Noelle got a taco salad. She brought the two a couple of drinks.
"So," Noelle started, trying for a conversation. "What happened with your mother, Kris?"
Kris tensed. "It's fine, don't worry about it." The waitress came back with their food. "We have more important things to attend to." Kris dug in immediately. He had always had a huge appetite, even rivaling Asriel's.
Noelle was a bit more reluctant. She had known Kris for forever. She could usually tell what happened to him just by looking, but now he seemed so... closed off. She took a bite of her taco salad and tried to ignore it.
Once they had finished eating, it was almost 8:40. They'd had so much fun, just the two of them. Kris had pretty much forgotten the fight between him and Toriel. He felt bad about it. Noelle had even tried to talk to him about it, but he just blew it off. He'll deal with it later, he decided. They paid, a little more than Kris would have liked, but still managed. They put their uneaten food into to-go boxes and left. They started walking, watching as the night sky was brightened with countless stars, enveloping them in a blanket of calmness.
"About the fight," Kris said out of the blue, "We had been invited to that new restaurant down the street from the Flower Shop."
"You didn't have to blow off your mother just because you wanted to be with me." Noelle responded.
"It got bad. We started arguing about that restaurant, then it got into our broken family." Kris replied. "I don't even know how it escalated so quickly."
"Oh, that's not good," Noelle said. She sat down with Kris on a bench. Kris sighed to himself, feeling hopeless.
"Why does everything have to be so complicated? Why can't things be normal for us?" He leaned onto Noelle's shoulder. He always loathed that he was shorter than her, but now it was comforting. He felt pathetic, whining to his friend about a stupid fight that shouldn't have even happened.
"All I can say is that we're teenagers," Noelle rubbed the top of his head, "Everything is just so fu-," she stopped herself, "messed up for us. There's no escaping it, just dealing with it."
Kris noted how it seemed Noelle always stopped herself from doing anything bad, even cussing. Maybe that's why she decided to wear such a long dress. Food for thought.
"Thanks," Kris said as he yawned on her shoulder and readjusted himself. Her fur was so soft. He hugged her close to him, digging his face into more of her fur.
"Kris!" Noelle chuckled. She hugged him back, cuddling on the bench. They stayed there for a bit, just sitting together.
"We should probably get home," Kris mumbled, muffled by Noelle's fur. He groggily stood up and took Noelle's hand.
As the moon shone upon them, they made their way to Noelle's home, still as empty as she had left it. Noelle then got an idea.
"H-hey Kris?" She stuttered.
"Yeah?"
"Why don't you stay over?" She started excitedly, "Since your mom and stuff, and my parents won't be home until next week."
Kris almost immediately agreed, but then blushed. Was he going to get in the same house as a girl his own age? Should he?
"Yeah, sure." He answered, deciding it would be better than going home to Toriel after running away. Speaking of which, he should at least text Toriel so she knew he was safe.
"Give me a second," He propped himself against a post and texted goat mom.
I'll be at Noelle's house for tonight. I hope you had fun at the new restaurant. I love you.
He sighed and walked inside the gate with Noelle. At least there was no school tomorrow.
He stepped inside the familiar mansion he knew as a child. He recalled the window he broke with some firecrackers. And the fireplace he accidentally busted with some firecrackers. And the pillow he blew up. Again, with some firecrackers. He didn't recall being THAT much of a pyromaniac.
Noelle showed him to one of many guest room, with it's own bathroom and wardrobe worth clothes of all sizes, including his. He took a much needed shower, got dressed in some sweatpants, no shirt, and slept like a rock.Yee Yee my bois. Finally finished the next chapter. Have you guys heard that Switch? For FREE?! I am pretty excited. I'll get right on the next chapter. Bye!
