~Trigger Warning~
"Hi, I'm Everleigh."
"Thanks for the help. He is an asshole."
"How do you know him," she asks wondering how such a beautiful girl could possibly know that filth.
"That's my boyfriend. I know what you are going to say, why don't you leave him, I'm working on it. It's hard being broke." Nina lightly chuckles.
"You know what, I can help you. Follow me." Everleigh decides to help this nice girl, even though she just met her. Everleigh has thought about leaving Jack many times but never had the push she needed to risk it for a better life.
"No, it's okay."
"I'm not taking no for an answer." With that Everleigh walks away, heading towards the closest ATM. Being married to a rich lawyer has its perks.
The closest ATM is a block away in the liquor store. Walking into the store Everleigh steps up to the machine and slides her card into the slot. Withdrawing a thousand dollars she removes her card. Handing the money to Nina she says,
"Here you go. Get as far away as you can. Build a life. Make friends and get a job. Just go and make a life for yourself."
"How can I accept all this money? It is way too much."
"You can and you will. All I want from you is for you to go and do whatever makes you happy. Although I just met you I want this for you. You seem amazing. Now I have to go but I hope you have an amazing life. Bye," and with that Everleigh exits the rundown store and heads home.
-
"I'll be good. I promise. Please." She pleads desperately with her own personal monster.
"It's too late," Jack replies before roaring his fist into Everleigh's face. Her once clear skin littered with bruises and cuts.
Gathering all the courage she could Everleigh tries to reason with Jack.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to forget dinner. It will never happen again."
Why am I such a fuck up?
"You bet it won't."
The next hit lands on her face once again causing Everleigh to become disoriented. Before Jack is able to strike her once again he is interrupted by the familiar tune of his cell phone. With a frustrated sigh, Jack drops her onto the wooden floor and goes to answer his phone.
After his exit, Everleigh lets out a relieved breath. Putting both of her hands on the sofa, she pushes herself up. Not trusting her legs to support her she hurriedly sits down on the leather love-seat.
Jack unsurprisingly leaves without a word, the only indication of his absence was the echo of the front door slamming.
I don't want to be here but I'm scared. Its not like I don't deserve it though, I shouldn't have forgotten to get the cheese.
No. Don't think like that, you don't deserve to be hit for a simple mistake.
Interrupting her inner turmoil Everleigh rushes to the bathroom. Barely making it she vomits into the toilet. This has been happening quite frequently and it is starting to worry her. Deciding to call her doctor, which happens to be an acquaintance, she dials his number.
"Hey Eve!"
"Hi, Jason. Sorry to call you so late but do you think I could meet you sometime soon. I have been throwing up quite a lot lately and haven't had time to make an appointment."
