"Can't I kiss you?" Si looked down at Shancai. Finally, the girl he loved was standing in front of him again, and she had just made him a delicious lunch. He understood now—just because she got off the bus didn't mean she was already on the same page as he was. He had loved her for so long now, he forgot that she was only just starting to catch up to him. This lunch and her wanting to date secretly were a good sign that she was getting there. She still had a lot of fears, and he couldn't blame her. He could only try to protect her and ease her worries bit by bit.

He stared down at her now, waiting for her reply. "No," she shook her head. He raised an eyebrow at her. "Why? If you don't tell me, I'm not letting you go." He leaned a little closer and she tried to lean farther away. She looked at him, and said, "Because..." Then a torrent of words flew out her mouth. "Because my heart's beating so fast. Because I'm too excited. Because you're all I think about. Because you're here in front of me. I can't breathe. So no." He smiled widely at her words and couldn't help but tease her. "Why are you talking like that?" She tried to look collected but was clearly still flustered. "That's how I speak. So what?"

He laughed. He knew exactly why she was talking like that. The rush of words was exactly the rush of emotion he felt whenever she was around. He touched his forehead to hers. "My heart is beating so fast. I'm too excited. You're all I think about. You're here in front of me. I can't breathe," he said softly, and saw her eyes shining up at him. "I feel exactly the same way you feel right now. And if I want to kiss you, then..." he caught her looking at his lips, "you must want to kiss me too?"

She turned red and tried to shake her head, but he pressed his hand against her cheek. "Shancai. Just close your eyes and listen to your heart. Do you want to?" She closed her eyes and he waited. Then, ever so slightly, she tilted her head up to him, keeping her eyes closed. His heart leapt with joy as he closed his eyes and bent his head down, capturing her lips in a sweet and gentle kiss. His hand stayed against her cheek while the other let go of the railing behind her and touched her back, pressing her closer to him. His pulse quickened when he felt her arms wrap around his waist as she responded to his kiss. As they stood there, time seemed to stop and the sun seemed to shine brighter, wrapping them in the warmth of a kiss between two people whose hearts were finally one.
